Ac68u. Setting country code worked previously but not on this firmware, each reboot puts it back on US.

Sorry if it`s a stupid question but how do see the country code?

I live in Brazil but my 68U was bought at USA (We don`t even have this one in Brazil to sell)

So should i set what country code in my case? And how do i do that?

I really like the new features of this version but I have reverted back to 374_2 because of the lower signal strength with 376.44. The lower 5 GHz channels which I am using in particular.

It is not a quirk, rmerlin already stated Asus think they can remove the ability to change country code for devices they sold in countries with incorrect country codes set.

Everyone should be shouting at Asus tech support for this. You can't sell devices in Australia, Singapore, Netherlands and the likes with incorrect country values that are locked incorrectly.

No other maker is doing anything like this. Asus has cocked up big time by not correctly setting the regions on these devices from factory and now think they can lock changing region, they are very wrong and all affected users should complain.

FCC has nothing to do with our countries and its pathetic rules has nothing to do with us. This all just reminds me of PlayStation mod chips and DVD region locking. Sony lost in court over that and Australia DVD players were region free ever since.

Wireless Client

Are there plans to add Wireless Client support? I have two RT-AC87R's I'd like to run as a bridge on 802.11ac. They won't serve any other clients.

I currently do this with DD-WRT and two RT-AC66U's. I'm hoping for a speed boost using the AC87R's.

Already contacted Asus. I have no problem with the locking of my locale as long as it is set correctly - GB in my case. The 'EU' is not a regulatory locale and that is what all routers seem to be locked to that are sold in Europe.

Could be a great firmware but I have to vote it as "buggy as" due to the 68u refusing to go into 80mhz and assign itself to the channel I click in the drop down, it basically does what it wants. This is after a factory reset.

Just found out if the wireless modes auto it will pick 80mhz

Yes, I discovered this in the Asus 1665 & 1663 Firmware and posted about it in the Asus 1665 Firmware release thread. If you select "N + AC" it will only use 40MHz and up to 450Mbps. So, this issue is an Asus carryover into Merlin's Firmware.

yep, I stuck with it for now, I have tried every trick int he book to open more channels but it resets the local after a page change, I can open it up to channel 140 but setting that and clicking apply reverts it to 112 as the max and throws me to auto.

I just want to be off the crappy 40 range to avoid traffic.

Tested beta 1 on AC66U,

found that with HW NAT enabled, speed never over 200Mbps, actually it is around 160Mbps and CPU is 100% during the transfer, and it is funny that even I enabled IPV6 6in4 tunnel, the HW NAT still show as Enabled (HW NAT cannot enable in previous firmware with IPV6 enabled)

with NAT disabled in switch control, speed is a bit faster around 180Mbps, but still cannot > 200Mbps and CPU is also at 100%.

now with same configuration downgrade back to previously version, speed can reach to 450+ Mbps and CPU is not 100% with HW NAT enabled.

So HW NAT is not working / enabled in this beta 1? Thanks

Validate the status on the Tools page. The Switch Control page is only a manual override to force disabling it, it does not change based on the current state.

The EM builds are always working with good range for me on both bands. I for one will miss the EM range if you decide to scratch it in favor of the newer drivers for the N66U. The non EM drivers are actually not too bad for my household's usage, if that will be the only choice then that will be fine too.

I'm scratching it because it hasn't been working for at least one, if not two versions already.

Hey Merlin, I'm using Opendns with AC87-R. I have opendns home set with individual ip addresses. It's not blocking sites. I've went to facebook and was able to get through as well as playboy. I didn't do any other settings except enable dns filtering, set opendns home and assign ip addresses.

Make sure OpenDNS does get your current WAN IP, as I believe it uses that to determine who you are. I assume this is supported through DNS-o-Matic, on the DDNS page.

If you bought a device outside of the US and it has a US country code in the CFE, then the reseller is the problem, not the manufacturer. If that's the case, I would shout at your reseller first, as it seems they are obtaining their inventory through the grey market rather than through official channels, probably because it's less expensive.

That would be outside the scope of this firmware project.

Media Bridge mode is what is normally used for this.

Just a reminder: if you don't specify which router model you are reporting on, then the report is useless and will be dismissed. A lot of things are model-specific, and I sure ain't going to try to reproduce your report on all 6 models.

The Parental Control issue is language-specific. So far it's been confirmed to occur at least with Italian. After taking a look at the Italian dictionary file there were so many unescaped characters causing UI issues that I gave up trying to fix all of them.

For now the workaround is to switch to English.
