Hell when losing connection
Hi,
I have RT-AC68U and I am on latest RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_376.48_1.
Yesterday, I had to shut down the power in my house since electrician was doing some work. I made sure I turned off every single device in my home prior turning the main power switch off, so both my modem and my router where properly shut down using power button and then I even unplugged power cables.
After he was done (some 10 minutes later), I turned everything on. Used normal method I always use... plugged my modem in, turned in on, waited for DSL light to go steady, and after 5 seconds plugged my router in and turned its power on too. Everything seemed normal, all the lights on my modem and my router were as usual. My PC, Windows 8.1 machine, which is connected by RJ45 cable to my router, would show me I have internet and showing me I am connected (not limited connection, but full connection).
Yet, there was no way I could get to internet. Tried Chrome, Firefox, IE, nothing would work, total stop, pages wouldn't even open, blank screen. My iMac, which is connected using Wi-Fi also shows as conencted, as well as my Galaxy Nexus phone... still, none of my machines would open any pages.
After 2 hours of trying to reboot my router, restart my modem, there is nothing I haven't tried... still nothing. At the end, to be truthful, I can't even remember how I got my connection back. I called my ISP (not some technical support guy, but the head of my ISP since I know him personally), Securenet.net in St-Laurent, Québec. He checked everything on his side, and told me there is absolutely nothing on their end, and it looks like I have perfectly fine connection as far as they can see. When I logged into my router, there was nothing unusual, I could also see it stated CONNECTED and I could even see all my devices connected to my router, Wi-Fi ones as well as wired ones.
Now, I wouldn't make big deal out of it if it didn't happen 2 times in last 2 weeks. This time I had to turn power in my house off, and that was the reason I had to disconnect everything in the first place. The other day, I moved my router to another room, and that was the reason I had to disconnect it, but after reconnecting it, I ended up with exactly the same problem like stated above.
I don't remember I've ever had these "re-connecting" my internet connection problems with RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_376.47_0. When I unplug everything, reset my modem and my router, reconnect everything in usual order, I'd instantly get my connection back. Not with RT-AC68U_3.0.0.4_376.48_1.
Is there anything I am doing wrong, is there any specific settings I should look into? If there is nothing, I might want to return back to 47_0. Sometimes I am away from home and connecting remotely to my home machine, but when internet starts trowing trouble like this, my wife at home has no clue how to reconnect everything and bring back the connection... heck even I don't know what to do now. Before, while i was on 47_0, I'd simply call my wife and tell her to turn off modem and router, wait at least 15-30 seconds, turn the modem back, and when DSL light is on and steady, turn the router on. That's all she had to do, and in a matter of seconds, literally, our connection would be back up and running.
Be easy on me please, my knowledge is limited. I am not bashing anything, simply reporting what's happening on my end, and hoping someone could recommend something so I don't run into these problems again.
Thanks in advance!
