Howdy folks,

Asuswrt-Merlin 376.48_3 (MIPS) and 376.48_1 (ARM) is now available for download. The biggest change in this release was the upgrade of the old Samba 3.0.x package with the latest from the Samba 3 series (3.6.24). Note that while this might introduce a slight decrease in SMB throughput on some models, it should overall help with the interoperability with various SMB clients, and general security.

Highlights of the changes:

  • Merged with Asus's 3.0.0.4.376_2769 GPL code.
  • Samba 3.0.x upgraded to 3.6.24. Performance will be slightly reduced on some routers. Note that support for the SMB 2.02 dialect is disabled by default, as enabling it introduces a 10% performance hit on file sharing. If you need to enable it, you can do by setting the smbd_enable_smb2 nvram setting to 1.
  • Various other components were also updated. Miniupnpd was updated to 1.9 (including one post-1.9 fix). This might possibly help some consoles who are quirky about their port forwarding support. Dropbear was also updated to 2014.66.
  • In the security department, OpenSSL was updated 1.0.0o. Also, support for SSLv2 and SSLv3 was dropped (the latter to protect against POODLE attacks). Now, only TLS 1.0 is supported, which will be fine for anything newer than IE6.
  • SNMP support was greatly enhanced, by enabling numerous common modules.
  • minidlna once again handles new files notification through inotify. It is now compiled with its own static copy of sqlite with threadsafe support, which is required for inotify to work. The DPI engine can keep using the shared version with threadsafe support disabled.
  • A lot of fixes were applied all over the place (see the complete changelog for the details)
  • Officially list the RT-AC68P as being supported.
  • 376.48_3: Backport NAT Loopback fix for MIPS models from Asus's 3626 code

Note: Previous firmwares (both Asuswrt-Merlin and stock Asus) suffered from a bug where some nvram settings might end up being corrupted, which can lead to the loss of the 2.4 or 5 GHz settings on the webui with newer firmwares. To fix the issue, either do a factory default reset, or run the following commands over SSH:

Code:
nvram set wl0_nband=2
nvram set wl1_nband=1
nvram commit

The actual bug was fixed both on my end and by Asus a few releases ago, however the corrupted setting will cause issues starting with newer firmware versions if not corrected.

Just to make this clear: this is not a new bug! It's an old one, already fixed long ago, but which is causing issues with the new code that relies on this setting.

Asus partly broke DHCP in 376_2769. Hold on before downloading, I'll revert back the broken code to previous behaviour and push 376.48_1 in a bit (must recompile all 6 firmwares first).

EDIT: 376.48_1 is now available as a replacement for 376.48.

Edit: didn't see the your post. It's currently updated

Just updated to 376.48_1. So far so good. I will let it burn in overnight before I start enabling all my custom configuration.

Thank . What would we do without you

Going to test it tonight

Is there a reason Jumbo Frames is Disabled by default now?

It always was disabled by default - that wasn't changed.

Thanks for the new update, I just flashed 376.48_1 in my RT-N16, but I have some troubles...

From my router log:

Code:
Nov 8 08:38:30 Samba Server: daemon is started

But MyAsus USB disk doesn't appear in my LAN even if correctly shared.
Also I can't see nmbd or smbd services running:

Code:
admin@MyAsus:/tmp/mnt/MYASUS# ps

As reported by bigmag I also have some strange reports on my log:
Code:
Jan 1 01:00:31 dnsmasq[483]: warning: interface ppp1* does not currently exist

Code:
Nov 8 08:36:57 HTTP login: Detect abnormal logins at 5 times. The newest one was from 192.168.1.2.

At least I have same problems as in 376.47 with AiCloud/Smart Sync/DropBox.
It still stuck syncing with some jpg and nothing happens.

Thanks

Max

EDIT

FTP on lan to MyAsus USB works fine, problem still remain on SMB

On my wireless mac filter, the names don't seem to be working as they should.

It is just showing mac address and then mac address again where the name should be.

Set wl0

Just to clarify, is the below code needed for all or just if you have Wi-Fi issues

Code:
nvram set wl0_band=2
nvram set wl1_band=1
nvram commit

If you've lost access to 2.4 or 5g wireless settings in the webgui you need it, if have not sounds like you don't need it.

Hi!
I tried to update firmvare from 3.0.0.4_376.47_0 to 3.0.0.4_376.48_1
But on 3.0.0.4_376.48_1 I have error "Too many retransmission" and I can't connect to my provider.
I return to 3.0.0.4_376.47_0 - all works without problem.

Hi
After update to 376.48_1 I didn’t have any access to my own NAT server
by DNS and as always issue with IPv6 (I’m not familiar with Comcast ;))

After I went back to 37.6.47 everything is fine (DNS and IPv6)

Thanks.

Cmd prompt

Hi all

For starters, great work RMerlin once again.

A question. Were is the cmd prompt in the router GUI i belive it was there way back. been a while since i needed it but i can't seem to find it anymore. has it been removed. was a great tool and no need for telnet, just run the command inside of the gui.

I had the same. I discovered that guest login had been turned off after the upgrade. Turning it back on made my USB disk reappear. Perhaps that is your issue as well?

I removed guest login some version ago, and I never had a problem.
I tried to enable it now again but no success, my USB disk still remain invisible browsing the LAN.
The main problem is that RT-N16 isn't running nmbd or smbd services needed to be visible and available on the LAN.
I think I'll downgrade to _47.
