I think the Mac does this as well, as far as cached memory.

Windows has been doing this for many, many years too. This is not something new or unique anymore.

Yes, I first started using Linux back in the early 2000's, like 2001 or so. Great disruptive technology at the time. Of course, I was working for a company that produced and sold UNIX software and services, so not so good for them.

Had to roll back to 378.56_2 on my Ac3200. This update seems to have caused big cpu spikes. And sometimes my router would become completely unresponsive in the gui and I had to use putty to reboot. Reset defaults same thing. Flashed back. The issues are gone.

Hi guys. I have updated my RT-AC87u to the latest firmware and I have noticed I cannot block Google's DNS to use my chromecast.

As you can see from the picture below I get an error. Can someone tell me how I can bypass this and enter 8.8.*.* like before?

CIDR format for this would be 8.8.0.0/16.

Hi All

I have just upgraded my AC87U to the latest Merlin firmware also and when my 2 x Xbox 1 consoles connect to the router, one is OPEN NAT and the Second one is MODERATE, for both Console and Game (Call of Duty)

The original ASUS Firmware also had this issue and I had hoped this issue would be resolved by Merlin's firmware.

The routers has UPnP enabled and no Port forwarding or DMZ have been configured. All IP addresses are managed by the router and assigned by DHCP.

Take a look at the firmware update page here
http://www.asus.com/us/Networking/R...oduct&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=router
(click Windows 10-64 bit, then firmware from above link)
Some of the updates are specifically noted that a reset is suggested. 3.0.0.4.380.1031 is NOT one of those.

Many of you seem to be unable to comprehend what I'm asking, so I'm done, it really doesn't matter. Like it's been said, if it works without the reset, great, if not, do a reset. I just thought it might help me/others understand things better if I heard why rmerlin thinks the sdk+wireless driver update requires a reset and Asus does not.
Merlin is way too busy to respond to your question when it has already been so expertly answered.

Hi Lex

My intention was not for Merlin to advise - but for the question to be put to the forum, anyway, thanks for details but alas my issue is with Merlins Firmware, hence the question - the AC87U has already been restored to factory default.

Hope that clarifies querry?

He didn't and some people finally understood what i was saying when reading it properly, but we are passed that now and it really doesn't matter. Just read back through the whole discussion and you'll see. No need to post further.

Can anyone share their experiences with the RT-AC88U and Merlins 380 firmware?
I know Merlin has the AC88U so wondering if its been more tested than other devices?

Also curious as my 88U should be arriving soon, so just wondering how people are getting on with the latest from Merlin...

On this version is problem with name clients. When i add my client to manual static IP and there also set name, then in NetworkMap is other name. It is abnormal... I write official firmware from ASUS and there is no problem. When i set in LAN>DHCP name for Client it is the same when i list view in NetworkMap.
Also edit client on official FW is possible when client is offline. In this version 380.57 edit offline client is not possible. Please correct it to use the same method as is use in official ASUS FW

Question: Do you sleep with Merlin at night?
if Stop answering for merlin,If Merlin want to answer the the question
that's for him to decide ,he doesn't need you to answer for him
It's no big deal either way

Thank you bigcid10 - alas DaveMishSr does not realise I am one of the UK ASUS testers for their xDSL routers and as such have direct contact with ASUS support team, which is why I posted the Merlin question here as I know Merlin is busy and did not wish to disturb him directly ;-)

That being your role, you'd better contact your Asus contacts to fix the issue structurally. Merlin generally does not fix Asus' issues...

And when he needs to answer all question (the same repeatedly because people are too lazy to read previous posts) you'd not be getting a new version soon...

Like I said ,what is it with everyone answering questions for merlin like your his partner
If he can't find the time to answer it ,it will go unanswered, simple

That's the essence of a public forum: Anyone can answer the questions asked. That's why. If you want an exclusive contact, the forum provides the tool 'PM' . So either send a PM or live with the fact that publicly posted question can/will be answered by anyone. Your choice.
