I just noticed the "warning" under TX Power Adjustment is gone. I can also set the router to 600mW. Is that supposed to happen ? LoL Never tried setting it to above 500 before.

It shouldn't, no. On which page was that?

Odd. In any case, entering 600, or 6000 will have no effect. Asus uses a table to determine which power to apply, and all values higher than 470 (if I remember correctly) get set to the same output power anyway.

Got my new N66U on Friday with firmware 112. Installed 178.15 today and love it!

2.4GHz/N-only/Control Channel 6/40MHz setting...

Extension Channel: Lower and Upper are reversed according to inSSIDer 2.1?

Set to 6 + Lower and inSSIDer shows 6 + 10.

Set to 6 + Upper and inSSIDDer shows 6 + 2.

Or am I interpreting things incorrectly??

BK

RMerlin, I would like to thank you for the wonderful job of modifying and improving the firmware for the RT-N66U. Keep up the great job!

On a side note, I am curious about the administration - performance tuning. Is it supposed to be a graph-type screen similar to the traffic monitor screen? Because I don't see anything happening on the screen in terms of it showing any temperature monitoring???

Is it broken or currently disabled or what? There are no buttons on the page to go to another tab, etc. I have to press the backspace button to get back to the main page.

If the page fails to fully load, then you are probably running an older version, which would break whenever you had one of the two radios disabled. Version 178.15 should be far more robust now, as I use my own code to retrieve the temperatures.

The page should load like any normal page, with the menu on the left side, and two lines on the graph showing temperatures of both radios.

If you still have issues, open your browser's error console to see if there's any additional info as to what is causing the page to fail to load.

The message should appear once you try to apply an amount over your regions output power limit.

You are right. They 've obviously mixed up that setting.

Thanks...i just updated to 178.15 from 162.14 last night. This version works on that page now. I thought you had gotten it to work properly on previous versions.

Previous version had pretty much the original page, with just the fan-related bits removed. That page pre-dates the official release of the RT-N66U, so it never was fully debugged by Asus. For instance, invalid Javascript gets generated if you have one radio disabled, causing the page to break.

After seriously considering just dropping that page, I determined it was easy to fix by using the new API I had implemented for the Sysinfo page. This allows me to retrieve the temperatures while still being able to handle scenarios where radios are disabled. That was implemented in 178.15.

Is there anyway to setup a password protected nas so that it only shows the root drive and then depending on what login you use it will show/give access to certain folders? I don't mind if I have to ssh in and do it from the terminal.

Yes, simply enable "Share with accounts". All shares will still be shown (which is normal since the router doesn't have any idea what access that user has access to at that point), but they will only be allowed to enter folders for which their login gives them access. Keep in mind that SMB doesn't allow multiple connections using different usernames to a single server, so you will probably need to assign a unique login to everyone, and give them the appropriate access to every shares you want to give them access. All of this can be done through the webui.

As I already mentioned there http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showpost.php?p=46222&postcount=36 I upgraded from .178 to RMerlin's custom fw .178.15 and use the device as an access point.

That upgrade worked like a charm in comparison to previous updates because now the RT-N66U kept working in AP mode including WPA2 key. After previous updates the devices changed from AP mode to router mode with subnet 192.168.1.1 / 24. So I allways had to change the subnet of my client, find the RT-N66U with Asus' Device Discovery, run the quick config, enter the WPA key, activate the AP mode and so on ...
