BE86U upgrade from AC86U - AIMesh problems

New Around Here
Hi,

Have been using an RT-AC86U for a few years now - with 2 AX92U nodes, plus an AX57. The first AX92U is wired, the others then connect via the AX92U. Diagram of current setup below. This is done via setting the AP preference for the nodes as represented in the diagram below. I get at worst a 300Mbps connection via the furthest node (the WAN is 1Gbps). It has been stable for ages, and very rarely disconnects, or causes any issues.

I decided to upgrade the AC86U to a BE86U (for the faster LAN/WAN speeds). The BE86U works great for the PC in the office - that gets a 1100Mbps speed instead of around 850Mbps before. However -the AIMesh is unworkable. With the same settings I find everything just tries to constantly connect to the BE86U, even the one that is wired. It never seems to use the AP preference that is set. The connections it makes to the BE65U are very weak, at best it gets 100Mbit and most times a speedtest is attempted the connection drops before it even completes.

So, before I send the BE86U back and just keep the old AC86U until it dies a death - does anyone have any ideas? I've tried both standard Asus and Merlin firmware - both with similar results.

Thanks in advance....

Think I've managed to get a setup that works. Used the BE86U in router mode, but not part of the mesh network. The AX92U then is in AP mode as the main AIMesh node, the other AX92U and AX57 are then connected as AIMesh nodes. Those 3 now work at similar speeds to before and the BE is not part of the mesh, but has the same wireless network setup. Not sure if I've lost some roaming capability, but some quick tests around the house produce similar network speeds to before and my main router now maxes out the WAN at 1,100Mbps. Plus the AC86U is dropping out of support soon, so happy hopefully to have a stable setup.

Good to know some about BE86U's potential issue. I have AiMesh of 2 AX86U...work reliably and thinking to upgrade to BE86U until seeing your post although BE86U is more expensive than BE92U ...sometime more$$ doesn't mean better....maybe holding up little bit!

FWIW - I have a BE86u and had an AX57 and AX58 as mesh, both hanging directly off the BE86 and everything 'worked' as expected. Even was notified by the flashing bell and ran a firmware update for the AX57 through the BE86 (manual fw download, flash through the BE86 upgrade interface).
