I've been a lurker here for several years (when I needed to figure something out/learn something), and I've been using Asuswrt-Merlin for almost as long. I don't update firmware frequently (if it's not broke...., and custom setting are a pain to redo) but finally decided today was the day to update my Asus N66U from 374.43, to 378.56_2. I only know enough to be dangerous, but took all advice recommended/outlined here and it appears to have been successful. My biggest concern was wifi range, and for me it actually seems to be slightly better.
For now I'm off to donate, and then move on to learning how to successfully install a VPN on my router and not break my VOIP. But I thought it was important to finally say thank you for the custom firmware and help!
