New Around Here
When my Mitsubishi modem is connected to my Belkin n+ router:

Speedtest : 98mbps download, 80mbps upload
Torrent download : around 3.5MB/s or roughly 28mbps

When Mitsubishi modem is connected directly to PC:

Speedtest : same as above
Torrent download : average up to 9MB/s or 81mbps

Equipment used and configurations:

Windows 7 ultimate
Intel i5-750
Mitsubishi modem on Fiber connection
CAT 5e cables
Belkin N+ gigabit router
Firewall disabled
Ports for torrent client opened

Is this a router related problem or is my Windows 7 not properly configured? It seems connecting the router in between the PC and modems cuts my bandwidth to 1/3. No other programs are running when tests were made.

The way i tested my speed using torrents is downloading a single torrent(40GB) from a private site then wait until the speed stabilizes. When the modem is connected directly to the pc, it stabilizes around 8-9MB/s.

I then pause the torrent, then connect the modem to the router then to the pc. Torrent is restarted and stabilizes to 3.5MB/s. I pause again, connect the modem to directly to the PC and restart the torrent and speed stabilizes at 8-9MB/s.

Everything is wired and I'm not making use of the wifi.

Help!
Thanks in advance

How many connections are you allowing for the torrent?

I have a maximum of 200 connections set at utorrent. My router is somewhat new(2 months old). I read the charts here and based my purchase using the budget I have and the review and ratings on this site.

Since you have Belkin N+ this is what I use to get when I was using it:
Note: this is with the latest firmware from Belkin.

Belkin N+ Gig/Router/AP F5D8235-4 v1000 - P2P Download Test

My reveiw with some LAN to LAN and WLAN to LAN testing

Here are some more settings you can use,

Client P2P
TCP.Sys Patch Settings

Hi Tipster. It seems you have made a high rating on the Belkin N+. I'm using v2 with the latest firmware 2.0.1.6 I think.

I would like to try using the tcp.sys patch but I'm using a different client(utorrent). I read somewhere that the stock settings of win 7 is still the best? I feel it's not a problem with windows settings since I can get max bandwidth when modem is directly connected to the PC.

I also read that you replaced your dlink 655 with this belkin n+ so I think I'm goig to scrap dlink from my possible routers to replace this if I can't get it to work.

I wish its just a configuration issue that's why I couldn't get max bandwidth when modem is connected to the router. I don't want to spend on another router only to find out my router is good.

Hope somebody could help me here :)

I pay for down 30mb/s and up 10 mb/s right now. I don't use UT because it never seems to be fast enough for me and there are other issues. I've use what you seen sime Azuer days now it's Vuze without the bloat though. Belkin N+ v1 hardware is what I have. I did find another Belkin N+ v1 hardware at our local warehouse. But those were sold out and replaced by v2 which you have. In yours you got RT3052 / 32MB of RAM same as ESR-9850, Buffalo 10/100 high speed router/AP an etc. Each brand uses this chipset differently.

As for tweaks I use for Windows 7 TCP Global settings I've only changed a few settings. TCP.SYS is a system file. The patch changes the number of sessions from 10 to 200. This more than enough for me. It's optional for you to make such a change. The file does get backup in the process though.

Since you have a faster download connection and your router maxes out at 200 or more for sessions. You can tweak the system to match the router msc if you want in your case I would set the software UT to 80 max sessions and the TCP.SYS to 100.

Thanks Tipster. I tried your suggestions but it still didn't work. I set the value to 100 and still get 1/3 of the bandwidth or speed.

I tried a torrent which stabilzed at a maximum download speed of 1.5MB/s when pc is directly connected to the modem and I can only achieve 500kb/s when the router is in place  Its always 1/3 the speed of what I can achieve when modem is directly connected to the pc. Very strange.
