Best router for hardcore wired gamer

on bestbuy.ca i see the the 56r is only 600mhz in speed and 128mb ram in specification, is it a mistake or the R version of this one is actually a cheaper router?

Well, with BB, you never know?

I would bet it's a mistake though and guess it's not different hardware than an 'U' version model.

So with rmarlin firmware this is the best router? or its the same with asus fw? I need ZERO latency created by my router,

im so freak about latency that my computer has plobly the lowest DPC latency

also, would you rather buy a R or U, around same price $5

EDIT : I was looking at first for good cpu into the router but like I found with the 68u vs 68p with a better cpu, it doesnt affect my needs

If you want zero latency, plug your gaming rig directly into the modem. Get a second nic or wifi adapter, and share the internet with your other devices through that.

For $5 difference, I would spend that easily to avoid shopping at BB.

As already stated by SnakeByte, zero latency is not possible through any router. Even directly connected to the ISP's modem, it will still give more than what your setup probably has.

Hehe - totally get the BB vibe - some good deals once in a while, but it's that icky feeling afterwords...

Direct connect to the broadband modem, as others have suggested, is going to have the lowest latency - you'll never get to zero, but anything in the middle is going to add something...

If you have ADSL, be sure you are on "fastpath" and not interleaved. That simple tweak dropped my ping from ~30ms to ~8ms. Probably the most impactful ping improvement I have experienced.

As much as I think I am a logical shopper, my emotional state comes into play too often.

Years ago, me and a friend were arguing about which brand of CD-R disc was the best. After the argument concluded, I admitted I had no actual data to support my claims and that I was simply judging the quality of the product by the quality of the label on the CD (Memorex, IIRC). My friend admitted to using the same reasoning.

That's probably the RT-N56U/R, not the RT-AC56U/R.

And I usually evaluate the quality of a power supply by its weight. Nothing wrong with that
