Buyer Beware! Stay away from Asus ExpertWifi EBR63.

I was at a local computer store today and I bought it to try it. Its a nice little router but the firmware is a complete freaking mess. After messing around with the router for half an hour, I put it back in the box and its going back to the store.

Latest firmware came out less than two weeks ago and it has a whole lot of bugs!! I flashed the router with firmware twice, reset the router twice and threw in the towel. I spent most of the time trying to get the 5Ghz band setup. Settings that did get saved, don't show up as what I have selected, and some settings just don't get saved at all. 5Ghz band only has selection for 20 and 40Mhz. I couldn't tell what was working or not. Navigating through GUI is buggy and sluggish.

Since the latest firmware came out only two weeks ago, who knows when Asus will fix all the bugs.... 6months, maybe even longer??
I didn't even bother looking at the rest of the settings in GUI. If you need something small and budget friendly, look elsewhere.

I have a pair of EBM68s, which I use as APs for OPNsense. The performance has been rock solid, but the GUI can be very sluggish depending on the browser and/or OS. Windows or iOS seem very smooth, e.g. with Firefox. In MacOS it can be very slow. Safari is the worst, leaving changed settings in their original positions, similar to your experience.

These EBMs were also updated a couple of weeks ago, including the web front end. Can't say I've noticed much difference. Performance wise, they're still very strong.

Asus makes great products. Once they get all the bugs worked out in the near future, EBR63 will be an excellent budget device. But in the meantime the firmware and GUI needs a lot of work.
