Note: My router Asus RT-AC66U power led light keep going on, then off then on nonstop. I can't get to GUI to do anything. I know nothing about networking so all the steps I did below is what I have learned as I go and it is in that order. Want to detail all so you can help if any of steps that I did along the way, causing it, so solution can be suggested. Thank you.

First problem: - Flashed dd-wrt mini (initial). "Upload completed", wait for reboot but nothing. Can't get to GUI to do anything or upload the build version.

- Repeatedly tried 30/30/30 reset, still no good. Then ethernet lan does not work, and automatically assign IP address, thought it was the ports are fried but not the case later on.

What I did since: Clear cache & cookies, turn off firewall, delete airport, network .plist (Mac), do new DHCP server lease. Static IP address. Do all kind of reset method available online. Still can't get to GUI through gateway IP.

Second Problem: - I thought my route is bricked, so I follow instruction to un-bricked it. Step followed was, assign static IP, subnet and gateway. Then unplugged power, hold reset then power up and keep holding it, get to 192.168.1.1 while holding to upload file. But I can't never get to GUI, and new problem created from that is power light keep going on and off in nonstop cycle. I think on and off like that means it auto reboot by itself.

When I pinged the static IP address I assigned, it works. So it seems that the only thing I can't get to is GUI. I heard we can get to GUI by using Telnet. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

It generally means that the router is in recovery mode. If was automatically rebooting every few seconds, then that would be bad.

Thank you Dosborne, but I recently did reset 30/30/30 again. Now power led light stay on, ping is good with static IP. But still can't get in GUI to do anything else.

I want to upload its original Asus firmware, is there anyway to upload firmware without being able to get on GUI? thank you

The 30/30/30 reset doesn't work on Asus routers. :)

You may want to follow the link below to get into the rescue mode of your Asus router.

https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1000814/

Or, you may want to follow the relevant parts of the M&M Config in my signature below to put your router back into a good/known state and be able to flash the firmware you want via the GUI.

L&LD, the Asus was flashed with dd-wrt. And that's when the problem started. I can have all the firmware available, but the problem is not able to access GUI. Ping is good is Static IP, which mean the LAN port is good and the router is good. Just can't do anything without access through gateway IP. Appreciate the response.

Did you read the link? Did you attempt it? You don't need the GUI... ;)

Hi L&LD,
Was scanned the link only and stop at enter gateway IP. This is not what I want, I thought. Anyway, I was able to upload the firmware without getting to GUI. Just for others that ran into the same problem. I was not able to upload it just follow the instruction because my Asus router can't be put into restore mode normally (slow flashing light) with standard pressing reset button. I later found that from Youtube that by pressing WPS then power on would put router in "emergency restoration mode", then do normal restore with reset button. I was not able to upload firmware with and slow flashing power light, but a few try with WPS and reset button cycle, I then able to upload firmware even without slow flashing restore mode power light. I can't tell you at what specific sequence of WPS button reset, and normal reset would allow you to upload. So play with WPS button if you run into the same problem uploading. Thank you L&LD

This is your only problem, you don't wait long enough for the process to complete. It takes a very long time to flash this router. After the flash process finishes on your PC screen, even if Firmware Restoration utility times out, don't touch the router in next 20-40min, wait for it to reboot by itself. You've read that right, up to 40min. Once the router reboots itself, then you can login with default user/pass to GUI.
