I am wanting to purchase the AC68U but for some reason i can not find this router any were locally. I called every store i can think of when i called best buy i was told that Asus is not shipping them any new ones. Is there a problem with this router and Asus has stopped shipping them out? I was looking on Amazon and they have them but it says it may take a few days to even process the order. I would like to buy the router locally so i can return it with out having to ship it back through the mail if there is a problem with it. Any ideas why this router is so hard to find in the local area stores? Thanks !!

BTW i live in SE Michigan near Ann Arbor area.

A quick online check of my local Best Buy's shows 3 stores have them in stock. Remember, retail stores (like Best Buy) will have the RT-AC68R. The U is the eTailer model number.
The only difference between the two are their model numbers - identical hardware.
The Jackson, MI store shows it in stock.

Thanks yes i am aware of the U-R being the same model. But no luck at any best buy thats 50 miles of my house and there are many of them. They state Asus has not shipped them any to sell. Jackson store shows one i may take the ride after a call to verify. After checking that best buy is 62 miles from me 124 miles round trip i will pass.

I see that makes sense i wish i would have got one at that time for 119.00  Thanks for all the quick responses. I may have to order one from Amazon.

Microcenter in Detroit has them. Still a bit far. Btw...GO BUCKEYES!

I live near Tampa Florida and no Asus products are sold in this area. Only option for us is to buy online. I'm waiting for the AC87U to launch though.

I ordered the ac68u from new egg should be here in a day or two. I hope this router works as good as some of the reviews. First thing I will do is flash Merlin firmware 39-0 on it. :D

I just called a Costco near me (Twin Cities area) and they said that the item had been deleted and that they had none in stock.

That said, I had ordered an AC68 from Newegg. It's a refurb, so I'm a little nervous. It was only about $20 off the regular price, so it's still fairly pricey. I had ordered a new one, but cancelled it before it shipped. I guess I just can't make up my mind. If the refurb doesn't live up to my expectations, I'll return it to Newegg and get a new one.

Looks like we both will have a new toy soon. I bid us both good luck !!

Just got the Ac68u from Fedx I will be installing it soon. Post back later. :D

Bah, mine isn't going to be in my grubby hands until tomorrow. That said, my laptop AC cards are going to be here today, as is my new cable modem.

Ok got the AC68U up and running installed Merlin build 39 and so far all is good. Im getting my full speeds wireless 58/12 i pay for 50/10. The tablets, iphones, ipads, roku boxes all seem to be working as they should. Its to early to tell so i will keep checking and trying things but so far so good. The range seems a little lower then the n66 on 2.4 ghz but not alot the 5 ghz band is better then the n66 and thats what i was looking for as i am trying to phase out the 2G band on as many devices i can. I will post back when more time passes or a issue pops up. :)

2.4 Ghz - 51 C
5.0 Ghz - 52 C
CPU - 78 C

The CPU is hot, is this normal for the AC68U ? No issues with performance at this temp.
