Hi Jack,

Thanks for the script! Nice one! I've been using connmon for some time now, and this is what I've seen so far. My ping is setup to 8.8.8.8 nad all working fine. But what I noticed is that on March 12th my internet connection was going up and down and all was reflected on connmon but now after some time has passed I go to see the last 30 days and it shows that I did have internet connection on 12th of march - it shows ping values which I had never had to 8.8.8.8 - which is odd. My regular ping values to 8.8.8.8 are around 50-60 ms. Any ideas?

Can you share the graphs? The last 7 days and last 30 days are aggregated data over 3 hour periods (I think), to cut down the number of data points plotted (large plots = poor performance)

What's HE domain so I can define it too? I'm also using cloudflare at the moment
go make an account at he.com so you can get your IPv6 "certification" and those credentials will let you sign into tunnelbroker.net
the first page of tunnelbroker has announcements:
[February 10, 2020]
The public recursors at 74.82.42.42 / 2001:470:20::2 / ordns.he.net now also support DNS over TLS (DoT) and DNS over HTTPS (DoH) for those who wish to use those interfaces.

And in case you're not 100% clear on such things, go read this (thanks to @dave14305 ):
https://www.cloudflare.com/learning/dns/dns-server-types/

There's a basic knowledge that's assumed around here, but I've often found it best to refresh people's memories (in aviation it's called recurrent training...see what I did there?) as well as bringing newbs up to speed. EVERYONE is somewhere between those ends of the spectrum; forward together, friends.

Mine doesn't look typical of the ones I've seen here. It always spikes every night about 10:30. Anybody got any suggestions why?
The higher ping on the 28-29, I think, is due to my trial of FreshJR's Adaptive QOS, or I believe that's what it was. My upload speed went down then about half, or from 9 to 5. Apparently I didn't know how to configure it properly so it is disabled now.
TIA,
jts

Yikes, them are definitely spikes.
Dunno where you are in the world but those long-ish pings indicate you’re a couple of decent-sized hops from a HE server...or are you using your ISP-provided modem that might be employing some QoS of its own? (Bridge that piece if you are...their tech support should help you do it...and while you’re at it, ask if they offer Native IPv6, so you can engage that functionality on your router.) Merlin’s firmware lets you set your router up for a better connection than your ISP ever would - they have to be more conservative to cover all use cases, while you can use the tools on hand to customize yours. I didn’t believe this until I dug into it and made it happen for my network, and I kick myself for being so reluctant.
Now if I could just wrap my head around Skynet...and then maybe Unbound too...

@JT Strickland here's right now, since I bridged and went dual-stack IPv6 on my 86u a few days ago:

Don't know what happened earlier this evening with that huge ping spike, but a HUUUGE improvement over my graph in post #292 above ^

FWIW, I'm using the IP address rather than the domain/URL - not sure if that makes any difference.

Another thought - which NTP sources are you using? I would try to avoid pools and use servers nearest you.

Although I had not interactively noticed Comcast's service deteriorating, connmon was showing that it has been over the past weeks during business hours. Today I am unable to conduct voice communications over VPN to work. I have been getting the following in syslog.log throughout today.
Code:
Apr 1 15:34:10 WAN_Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.
Apr 1 15:34:15 WAN_Connection: WAN was restored.
Apr 1 15:40:13 WAN_Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.
Apr 1 15:40:19 WAN_Connection: WAN was restored.
Apr 1 15:43:19 WAN_Connection: ISP's DHCP did not function properly.
Apr 1 15:43:24 WAN_Connection: WAN was restored.
The workaround is to use Webex on my personal phone over the T-Mobile network.

The cable modem logs have no errors since 3/15/2020. The cable modem status page shows strong signal with no accumulating errors.

Yes sir, it definitely looks different than mine. I have a Netgear 1000 docsis 3.1 modem with a cable/broadband 250/10 Mbps connection. I will have to look into bridging. I am pretty green at this stuff still, but I am learning slowly.
Thanks for the help.
BTW, the older f/w 384.15 had a glitch if you used the IP in the VPN address, it would not connect mostly, and if it did it would drop about every three minutes with lots of errors. I messed with it for a few days, then tried another server with the url (the way it was in the config file, not by choice), and it connected smooth as silk and stayed that way. Later I ran across the glitch in the release notes for 384.16 and he said that it was corrected in it. EDIT: I can't find this now. I may have misread it, but that is what happened to me.
I have IPv6 disabled for now, so I'm not sure dual stack would be applicable for me. I really don't know yet.

I reinstalled this on my 56U with 384.6 after a complete reset (so probably a newer version of connmon than I tried six weeks ago, and while it installed, the web page is unresponsive.

It isn't worth fretting about given this is unsupported, but I thought I would just report as a data point. I can't use John's fork as the combo of it and my N66 in media bridge mode doesn't seem to work.

Cable Internet -mostly because of the nature of the beast (I think), but also partially attributable to a certain chipset in some DOCSIS modems (if the noise on my ISP's reddit is to be believed)- has been problematic for high ping times since the pandemic started and everybody went home to work, just so you know. You can follow all the suggestions/directions here, "do all the right things" and still may end up with as good as you've got now, but let's stay positive and optimistic.

those look like waves in the ocean followed by a connection tsunami, what did you do to resolve this dilemma?

There is nothing I can do. It is an ISP capacity issue. Municipal broadband and FIOS are not available.

Hi, I updated yesterday connmon and now looks like that:

Any advise?

Looks like you're running an older f/w. Custom settings needs 384.15 and higher.
I'm not aware of any custom settings I made.

Uninstall with delete data, re- install - same issue

Any advise how I can roll back easily to previous version?
