Hello,

I upgraded my R7800 from 106SF to the latest firmware 110SF and Kamoj Addon 5.5b41 (the latest version I have).

The only issue I noticed is that for DNSCrypt Proxy v2 the list of servers was missing and it did not start. I did get all the servers and saved the list. After that it works fine.

For Openvpn it was complaining for missing credentials for my ovpn file, but I just put some dummy ones and it works fine with Orbi on the other end of the vpn link.

I also use Aegis and Netdata - no issues there.

Thanks and kind regards,
Dancho

(sharing this here because I'm unable to share on the add-on page, but couldn't test things out without reporting back, so I'm just doing that here, hope that is okay!)

I have been able to download, install, & test for about 6 months @kamoj 's addon 5.5b40 using the R7800 router on @Voxel 's V1.0.2.106SF firmware.

Very happy to report that every new setting that I REALLY knew what I was doing when changing/modifying worked as expected.

I don't have any highly technical done to the router settings, but just the ability to quickly manage certain settings and monitor the status of certain hardware functions really comes in handy.

My favorite features are "Turbo", "Supervised", and the ability to turn off OEM features like "Readyshare" and decide for myself whether I wanted to have the "Transmission" feature turned on/off.
Those features and being able to see the router like a dashboard make it all come to life for me.
I can't help but get the feeling that @Voxel & @kamoj were somehow sitting next to each other while making their builds because each one compliments the next so well, and the two just came together perfectly.

My biggest point I want to make here is that I'm one of those people that is used to having outdated hardware, (my mobile devices, laptops, etc.) so ANYTHING that helps update, keep relevant, and/or make lighter/faster my hardware is very much welcome in my office!

+++ THIS FIRMWARE / ADD-ON COMBINATION ACCOMPLISHES THIS LIGHTER AND FASTER FEELING FOR ME, ALL SETTINGS ASIDE +++

The firmware from @Voxel is great by itself at accomplishing this for me, but I have been blown away by the features integrated on the add-on from @kamoj .
I am looking forward to playing with more of the settings and especially getting the VPN settings going, it's just been a little intimidating for me, but I'm getting there!

Thank you for everyone's presence on this forum, it's a blessing to have this website to learn from others' issues and give me confidence when I decide to tackle subjects I'm not 100% certain about.
Cheers, everyone, and thanks again.

---------------- P.S. -------------------
@kamoj & @Voxel , after spending more time here reading some things I realize that I could/should do more sharing on the forum and be more active/present in general.
Whether it's giving feedback to other people or trying to help provide answers, I do recognize I should be doing more to GIVE BACK to this forum as much as this place has helped BENEFIT my own time.
My sincere apologies for not doing that already like I should, and I really mean that. I'm truly grateful for the work you both have put in to making this a welcoming place for people like me and that work does not go unappreciated.

Sincerely, Steve Falk

Posting here as I cannot reply in the Kamoj thread.

I've been using Voxel firmware and Kamoj addon for almost 2 years now, and I've found it very stable for my environment.
My configuration is very simple, just overriding the DNS settings in DHCP to point clients at a separate Pi-Hole for DNS.
My wife and I both work from home, so performing updates / changes that take out the Internet are difficult, so I've found myself with very outdated versions.
I'm currently on Voxel 1.0.2.98SF and Kamoj 5.5v 27.

I've been hoping to update both Voxel and Kamoj, but it looks like if I update Voxel I may not be able to reinstall Kamoj, which would be a great shame.

Reading through the updates in the Kamoj thread I'm sorry to see that Kamoj has stopped participation in this project. I'm not sure if existing 5.5b users can still gain access to newer versions of the beta? I guess I'm as guilty as others, in that I have tested the addon, got a working configuration on gone quiet on the forum.

Is there any advice for updating Voxel but keeping the existing Kamoj version? Possibly this would be to backup the kamoj installation files previously installed, and put them back later? From reading the forum it doesn't look like old / existing beta testers would be able to contact Kamoj for the latest version.

Thanks for any advice,
TC

Hey @toycar69 ,

If you are really looking to save the add-on config while upgrading firmware...there is LOTS of good info (pretty much the recipe to do it right) on the FAQ.txt/readme.txt files provided by Kamoj. What I would try and do is save the .ipk file currently on the root folder of your router elsewhere (move to computer, USB, but somewhere external would be most safe) and then do your upgrade referring to the FAQ.txt / readme.txt. Then from there, add the .ipk file onto the router and then upgrade once your firmware upgrade is complete, and for sure save your current config file before doing so.

On top of that, I would up participation on the forum and try to give back to the community, and stick to your word on that. I upgraded knowing that my Kamoj config would be gone, but I knew that I really didn't deserve to have the add-on from @kamoj if I weren't going to actively participate...so I took what I deserved and just flashed the @Voxel firmware knowing that if I did the right thing, I would hopefully get the add-on information back at some point in time.

I know it's a wrestle with morality on this one, but I'm willing to do what's right to try and get this whole thing turned around. Sounds like we're in a similar predicament on this one! Just do what you think is right and if you aren't sure, wait for some more feedback and/or direct feedback from @kamoj / @Voxel

Let us know what you decide and how things go for you!

All the best,
Steve F.

Anybody noticed that Netgear launged an official firmware update for this R7800 at 26-9-2024 ? Despite the fact that this router is not supported anymore, according to their website.

Firmware Version 1.0.3.92

Thanks for sharing this. There is dedicated thread on this topic already, so let's please discuss it there:
