I am a long time user of Voxel's R7800 firmware and recently encountered a problem that I used to have covered. That is, pornography was allowed through my router recently and I am not finding url re-direction to the Internet utility that used to provide our household with this protection. I read through some of the pages in the firmware and added a few know url's to the 'Block Sites' list but find these are still allowed through. Do I need to be more patient and test these websites again or are there better tools these days that provide this service? We have a mix of Linux and windows OS's in the house so I need a broad coverage tool. We also use a variety of web browsers so this also complicates the situation.

Please advise. I have no idea when I lost protection from sexually explicit material websites and I need to make sure our children are not allowed to view this.

Edit - I resolved this issue.

What was the fix or the issue?

I have been migrating away from Windows and to Linux distributions and in this process I forgot that I had used OpenDNS (https://www.opendns.com/) for these purposes. I initially configured my R7800 to use this when I purchased it many years ago. It is very simple and straightforward to setup and effective. You can use their custom security levels as well as customize each of these. The Netgear UI is not effective with these issues but their website indicates they have a smartphone app that is supposed to meet this need. I do not know if we can use this app with our custom firmware but it does seem feasible. I chose to remain using OpenDNS because of my history with it.
