Device suggestions for AiMesh node just for 2.4ghz IoT with a Pro primary

I just got done with support and the answer from the first tier of support was that any supported AiMesh device works with Guest Network Pro networks. Which as we can see from testing is technically true. So, I then asked for clarification that all 3 of my Guest Network Pro networks would be available at the same time via AiMesh on a device like the RP-AX58 and they said yes. From what OzarkEdge and bbunge have shown through testing though is that's not correct.

I think I'll go get a RP-AX58 and test it to see what it can do and if that doesn't work return it and do what you suggested OzarkEdge with getting another cheaper Pro with the trade in of an old device.

Here you go... AC66U_b1 (same hardware as the AC68U) added to an AX86U Pro as an AiMesh node. And it will support one VLAN Guest WIFI on the 2.4 GHz band as the OP requested with Ethernet backhaul.

Same result as in earlier post17.

The OP was clear... they were asking about multiple VLAN support on non-Pro nodes... not just one 2.4 WLAN. We should trust them to decide what they will settle for.

Asus is in process of redesigning AiMesh and Guest Network Pro is going away. The new and proper configuration logic starts with Network, extends to Ports and eventually to one or multiple Radios. I don't know how many routers will be compatible as Nodes, but they have to be fully VLAN aware. Everything EoL is out right away, everything else has to receive firmware updates. And the alpha testing cycle starts all over again...

I have the same understanding/impression. I hope ASUS and the Pro hardware can get it done. At least they seem to be trying... not releasing more of the same, but pausing to go in a different and hopefully better direction... that's what I sense. They do improve things... it just seems to take forever.

Because Asus generated 100 different model routers for market flooding purposes and seems like don't have the resources to support them all equally well. The focus is on BE models as expected, when and if AX models will get new features - unknown. I'm actually not sure why they are doing it and who is the target customer. Whoever wants VLAN segmented network with expandability won't go for Republic Of Gamers device anyway. Keep the home routers simple, expand the business series for whoever needs such thing. TP-Link has Archer, Omada, Omada Pro clear product line separation. Ubiquiti has similar AmpliFi, UniFi and UISP. Asus is competing with themselves, RT vs ROG vs ExpertWiFi. 🤷‍♂️

I have two AX868U Pros, one is primary router the other I am using in my room on the other side of the house as a repeater/mesh node.

I just sold the second AX68U on ebay for £80. I started looking around for a cheap thing to use as a repeater but I am thinking just to refund the sale and keep both? like even if I could find a node for £30 that'll do the same job, is it worth it when the AX has much more.

edit; I can get an AC66u b1 on ebay for £20, will that serve the same purpose as the second ax68u? and it's still supported with merlin?

Nothing official, nothing documented yet. Just observations of changes in newer firmware releases.
