^^^^ Yeah, there are 2 or 3 threads here that take a while to read, then re-read and I'm still not sure I understand all the greatness!

WRT you USB/SSD/other question see here --> https://www.snbforums.com/threads/entware-which-usb-stick-performs-well.48188/page-8#post-446899

I had an older 80GB SSD laying around, got the UGREEN case and it performs very well... YMMV.. there's quite a delta in what the members are reporting.
As a general rule writes are the most expensive and truer tell of how things will perform. Later.

Hello all,

First of all thanks Decoderman for creating Diversion, it is working great on my AC86U running Firmware Version:384.10.

If someone could give me his/her insights/recommendation regarding my setup, I would greatly appreciate it:

I'm new to this so sorry if this has been answered before (couldn't find a similar question), I currently have a 1TB HDD connected to my router's USB 3.0 port and a multifunction printer connected to the other 2.0 USB port.

The 1TB HDD is working as a file history disk for the files on my laptop, it is formated as EXT4 because I also have Diversion and pixelserv-tls installed on it.
I have noticed that the HDD is not hibernating after not using it for 300 seconds, I suppose that Diversion and pixelserv-tls are frequently using the HDD because there is always a client connected to the router (I have a PS4 and a Nintendo Switch that are in sleep mode and have seen some activity when using "follow dnsmasq.log" on Diversion comming from their static local IP addresses).

I don't know if there will be more wear to the 1TB HDD for being used 24/7 (it is the HDD from the PS4 Pro since I upgraded it to a 2TB Hybrid drive).

I was thinking of plugging a 4GB USB flash drive (formated as EXT4) to the USB 2.0 port with Diversion and pixelserv-tls installed on it but I have some doubts, according to the iozone benchmark (attached pictures), my HDD has ramdom read/write IOPS (4kB) of 154/447 and the 4GB USB flash drive has random read/write IOPS (4kB) of 796/5.

What is more important for my online experience, read or write speed?

I don't use the printer very often, so in case you would recommend connecting the 1TBHDD to the 3.0 USB port and the 4GB USB flash drive to the 2.0 USB port, I could just unmount and unplug the HDD and connect the printer just to print/scan and then reconnect the HDD.

Sorry for the long post and excuse my english as it's not my native language.
Thanks
Roberto
I would deploy your small usb drive as the entware, swapfile, script drive. keep using your other big drive for backups. It should sleep ok then.

Hi skeal,
thanks for your answer, one more question;
Do you think I need a faster usb drive?

Nope the requirements are met quite well with a USB2.0 device. ;):)

There are some Samba tweaks that can get your transfer speeds for your SSD up where they belong. Start reading here. ;):)

oh nice ,I'll give it a try and report back my improvements

Hey everyone! I just installed Diversion for the very first time and so far am truly impressed. I have a few questions. The first problematic website I encountered was:

https://montrealgazette.com/

My gut feeling tells me this is simply a poorly setup website (but I could be wrong). A lot of the pictures are blank for some reason and when I follow the log, the missing pictures seem to be pointing to:

postmediamontrealgazette2.files.wordpress.com

Can someone more experienced please shed some light onto what may be going on here?

Thanks to all in advance.

Hi Thomas

Welcome to the forum

Installation instructions are here:

https://diversion.ch/diversion/installation.html

Thanks
The normal installation procedure did not do anything. I managed to get it installed again by going to /tmp/mnt/sda1/entware/bin and start diversion
It looked like it went into a loop during installation but after some time It worked.

I had a quick check - host postmediamontrealgazette2.files.wordpress.com is also blocked for me. If you want to access it, then add to the whitelist in diversion - 'el' from the main menu then option 1.

Done and fixed! Thank you very much.

Here on SNB in this same forum:

But with Stubby DNS over TLS it is still encrypted. My VPN provider does not have their own DNS, and I am in the process or setting up my own VPN host with Algo and Wireguard, and will still use the Cloudflare DNS over TLS using Stubby.

Even with DNS-tls your SNI is still visible to your ISP. I tested the wireguard and it’s promising. However it does log all dns traffic by default and cannot be disabled. This is my understanding but it’s still in development.

What’s everyone CPU usage like on 68U after installing diversion? Mine spiked up after installing amtm then diversion & skynet. Average is around 68%. Is that normal? Spikes to 89-90% sometimes.

It did that to me as well initially but then settled down. If you have QoS active, it could also be contributing to the CPU spikes.

QOS not active. What’s your RAM like?mine is constantly over 80% and what’s your CPU like and what all have you installed?

Reference attached screenshot taken as of this post.

I do not have QoS enabled either.
I am running the latest versions of Merlin 384.10, Diversion, Entware, AMTM, and Stubby.
Also using an OpenVPN Client connection

Here’s mine, what could be the reason? Haven’t even set up open vpn yet let alone stubby.
I upgraded to 384.10 and CPU was high so cleared NVRAM and started fresh then set up everything and after I install amtm, skynet, diversion this happens. Also attached top screenshot in case it helps.
@RMerlin can you please have a look too?

It sounds like something not behaving on your router. Trying to find a needle in a hay stack as I would put it.

I would recommend you check this link out and start fresh. This would pretty much eliminate any router fussiness.

Ok will try that. When I create a backup file with amtm, skynet etc. installed, does that also get backed up or do I need to install all again? What about the USB drive, does that also need to be formatted again etc. after restore to backup?

Or you coud use the top command in the shell to see what process is using the cpu.
Or even better install htop:
opkg install htop

That's a very good question. I'm not sure about the USB drive so it's best to wait for someone with a little more experience to answer if you prefer keeping it with all its current data.

If you don't care and want to truly start over from scratch (which is what I did), nuke everything and proceed (i.e. formatting USB drive, resetting router, manually re-installing all the services you want).
