New Around Here
Hi All,

I'm currently looking to replace my D-link DNS-323. But I'm a little picky about the specs :)
Let me list the things I'm looking for in a NAS:
  • fast file sharing
  • able to run linux
  • low power consumption
  • room for 2 3.5" drives
  • Raid 0,1,JBOD

My DNS-323 does all of these things, except the first one. File sharing, and more specific, file browsing is kinda slow. It could be that I'm stressing the poor thing too much by running torrents, podcast getter, nzbget and subversion on it.
So I'm looking for one that has the same options, but is a bit (lot) faster.
Does anyone have any recommendations, or should I give up looking for these functionalities in a NAS and go for an Atom based pc?

Those are easy requirements to meet.

Look @ QNAP TS-219P or TS-239 Pro and Synology DS-209 or 209+II

Any of the above should give you 3x+ the performance of the DNS323. You'll need to compare the power consumption specs to see if they are to your liking. In most cases the disks consume the majority of the power anyway.
