If you install entware you also can use transmission aka "download manager".
https://github.com/RMerl/asuswrt-merlin/wiki/Installing-Transmission-through-Entware
It's a win,win situation because with entware's transmission you will get a huge speed improvement

Just looking at these comments - which goes back as 2013 - my question is has Asus Download Master improved or is it Transmission better. I read some of the comments that stated 'Download Master' not able to do Magnet link which of course I can see within Download Master. I am in the same boat as @shooter40sw, like the idea of using dnscrypt without installing Entware -am Download Master is working OK - are there any main advantages of Entware?

thanks in advance

sammyano, I've compiled dnscrypt-proxy for asuswrt-merlin firmware. You may continue using DM or whatever you want:)

No Entware or Optware required, just follow these steps:

1) Make sure JFFS is enabled from WebUI, you need to reboot after enabling JFFS,
2) unpack archive from telnet/ssh console
Code:
wget -O - http://files.ryzhov-al.ru/Routers/asuswrt-merlin/dnscrypt-proxy/dnscrypt-proxy-asuswrt-merlin-mipsel.tgz | tar -C / -xvz
3) restart router.

Thanks ryzhov_al - so no other configuration required apart from the steps above right, lastly do I need to remove the Opendns IP specified within the router and will the above use opendns as default dnscrypt.
thanks again

I need to see full syslog, there must be some records when dnscrypt-proxy is starting.

ryzhov_al - will check the syslog for when dnscrpt-proxy started. I was completed locked out of internet connection by running the command

Hi, I just run the script, I dont loose internet access, but it does not update the dns-o-matic. At first reboot it did not do NTP either but after the second one it did. Thanks

I encountered this problem my first restart after upgrading the entware package.

I had to:

1) Create /opt/share/dnscrypt-proxy.csv
2) Populate it with https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jedisct1/dnscrypt-proxy/master/dnscrypt-resolvers.csv
3) Add the following to the init script's ARGS "-R opendns " (or insert your preferred resolver from the csv.

Hi, but I did not install entware, I used the script
wget -O - http://files.ryzhov-al.ru/Routers/a...roxy/dnscrypt-proxy-asuswrt-merlin-mipsel.tgz | tar -C / -xvz
That ryzhov al said, no need to install entware, just activate jffs. I have an R-66U using merlins latest firmware 42. Thanks!

What is the output of "/jffs/bin/dnscrypt-proxy --local-address=127.0.0.1:65053 --daemonize" in the shell?

Nothing at all
:/jffs/bin# ./dnscrypt-proxy --local-address=127.0.0.1:65053 --daemonize
:/jffs/bin#

and I keep getting this:

1) You need to create the dnscrypt-resolvers.csv file somewhere from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jedisct1/dnscrypt-proxy/master/dnscrypt-resolvers.csv. (in /jffs is fine)
2)Run "ln -s /jffs/dnscrypt-resolvers.csv /home/ryzhovau/projects/staging-mips/share/dnscrypt-proxy/dnscrypt-resolvers.csv"
3) Add the above ln command to your wan-start before it starts dnscrypt-proxy.

Got it! No more default DNSCrypt servers are hardcoded. I've fixed Entware package, server is selectable now:
Code:
admin@RT-N66U:/tmp/mnt/OPT/tmp# opkg install dnscrypt-proxy
Installing dnscrypt-proxy (1.4.0-2) to root...
Configuring dnscrypt-proxy.
By default, dnscrypt-proxy will use the OpenDNS dnscrypt server.

Precompiled binaries for asuswrt-merlin fixed too. To install DNSCrypt-proxy without Optware/Entware, please do:
1) Make sure JFFS is enabled from WebUI, you need to reboot after enabling JFFS,
2) Install precompiled dnscrypt binaries with start script from SSH/telnet console.
  • on MIPS-based routers (RT-N16, RT-N66U, RT-AC66U):
    Code:
    wget -O - http://files.ryzhov-al.ru/Routers/asuswrt-merlin/dnscrypt-proxy/dnscrypt-proxy-asuswrt-merlin-mipsel.tgz | tar -C / -xvz
  • on ARM-based routers (RT-AC56U, RT-AC68U):
    Code:
    wget -O - http://files.ryzhov-al.ru/Routers/asuswrt-merlin/dnscrypt-proxy/dnscrypt-proxy-asuswrt-merlin-arm.tgz | tar -C / -xvz
3) Reboot router.
The OpenDNS dnscrypt server will be used, if you wish to choose another one (from the list above), please install full package from Entware.

That's strange. Mine is starting in one minute, works well.

I'm not using any dyndns services.

Now my WifI devices do not have internet. only if I specify the opendns servers on an iPad, but if i leave the router IP as the default gateway there is no internet, just found that out using a nexus 4 and it does not have internet, my ipad did have until I changed that option, and my PC does have internet because I have dnscrypt running as a service on my windows pc

Hi, I just tested again, and it fails to connect, my router the R 66U gets the IP from my ISP, already tried this with googles and opendns, I also had the DNS filter active for open DNS.
For this test I disabled DNS filtering, and let the ISP DNS servers
I installed the dns from the script, no entware... I have optware because I use download master.
After the installation of the script I reboot and my router does get an IP from my ISP, but no wireless on anything, if I place a DNS server like opendns on the ipad it works, but if a point to the router it does not.
My PC does the same, if I set the pc to get DNS automaticly, it loses internet conection, If I set it to use DNScrypt for windows, that I installed as a service for the PC it has internet connection.
So it looks like the script is not working for some reason, that nothing has internet service unless you bypass the routers DNS.
Thanks for your efforts!

According to log, dnscrypt-proxy starting as planned, but later it disappeared from process list. I can't reproduce such kind of behavior, sorry.
