Entware Entware not found after Update.

New Around Here
Hi guys,

I'm new to the whole Merlin world. So I ran into some problems after updating Entware on different Routers.

Updating on RT-AX88 U Pro was no problem and everything ran smoothly afterwards.

Yet I also run an AC86U remotely. Also the Updates ran seemingly without problems. At home I noticed that the router was disconnected from tailscale and also wireguard wouldn't work. After checking the router files I noticed that my mount was missing.

My question is if anybody ran into the same issue and what a solution could look like. I think it is unlikely that the drive was formatted or something like that. Maybe there is just a problem with the mount so that reboot of the mount script will solve it.

I ask these questions instead of trying it myself cause the router is located pretty far and I want to try as much viable solutions as possible when I'm there.

What are your ideas?

Thank you very much in advance

Poldi

Dear Poldi,
at first: I am a big cologne fan, so I assume you reference to Podolski - big love!
Maybe this could help:
  1. Check Mount Configuration: Ensure that the mount configuration in your scripts or fstab file (if you're using one) is still correct. Sometimes updates can overwrite or change configurations. Verify that the paths and options are still valid.
  2. Re-run the Mount Script: If you suspect that the mount script is not executing properly, you can try manually running the mount command via SSH when you have access to the router. This can help you identify any errors that occur during the mounting process.
  3. Check Disk Health: If possible, check the health of the drive you are trying to mount. If the drive has issues, it may not mount correctly. You can use tools like fsck to check for filesystem errors, but this would require SSH access.
  4. Review Logs: Look at the system logs (usually found in /var/log/) for any error messages related to mounting or the services that depend on the mount (like Tailscale and WireGuard). This can provide clues about what went wrong.
  5. Reinstall Entware: If the issue persists, consider reinstalling Entware. Sometimes, updates can lead to broken dependencies or configurations that can be resolved by a fresh installation.
  6. Check for Updates: Ensure that both the router firmware and Entware are up to date. Sometimes, issues are resolved in newer versions.
  7. Backup and Restore Configuration: If you have a backup of your router's configuration, you might consider restoring it to a point before the update. This can help if the update caused a configuration issue.
  8. Consult Community Forums: Since you're dealing with specific router firmware and Entware, checking forums like the AsusWRT-Merlin community or other networking forums can provide insights from users who may have faced similar issues.
  9. Plan for Physical Access: If none of the above solutions work, you may need to plan a visit to the router to troubleshoot further. Having physical access will allow you to check connections, reconfigure settings, or even reset the router if necessary.
Viva Colonia!

Run cat /jffs/scrips/post-mount
in a terminal, the output should show a line where it references mount-entware.mod.
If so
- Check your routers syslog for USB errors. amtm writes to this log when mounting Entware.
- Install disk check dc in amtm, then reboot router.
- The disk check log can be viewed with dcl in amtm
- Cross fingers Entware now works again
