I read over at hardware forums that MU-MIMO has been implemented for awhile now. Is that any way to look at that?

I have several MU-MIMO clients
3x3 MacBook Pros
2x2 iPhone 6s and iPad Air 2

Dear Allograft,

iPhone 6s and iPad Air 2 - supporting MIMO and not MU.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

None of those clients you mention support MU-MIMO...

Their SU-MIMO, and there, they perform quite well..

Sadly, while Qualcomm states that the SD808 SoC (as used in the Nexus 5X) supports MU-MIMO, the Nexus 5X comes with this chip, with no mention of MU-MIMO support. So, no MU-MIMO for me (not that I really need it tho).

EDIT: And the plot thickens...

So no idea if the Nexus 5X supports MU-MIMO or not. With Wifi Alliance certifications only set to begin next year, many manufacturers might not want to promise MU-MIMO yet.

Oh my, I really jumped on this tech way too soon. I thought this stuff was ready for prime time. It's not even finalized yet...It's ironic, I'm planning on updating my Mac's this weekend to El Cap, now that 10.11.1 is out. I don't even update OS's until the first service pack comes out. I'm definitely not going the down the rabbit hole of the 88u or AC5300 at this point. Once the specs are finalized, then I can start to look back at what's new and happening. It was like Japan in the late 90's with a pre-release version of WCDMA that they called FOMA, which later needed to be updated once the standard was finalized. See this is what happens when one breaks his leg, needs bones to heal and transplant tissue, is bed-ridden and under pain killers...and needs to replace tech components...it seemed like a good idea at the time last year.

MU-MIMO is just one aspect of the technology. The rest of the router is still totally standard tech.

The June 2016 timeframe is only for device validation in regard to that particular capability. The standard is already finalized (as it's part of the 802.11ac specifications), it's just that the Wifi Alliance won't be testing and certifying that particular aspect until then.
