Or just get a different AP - iPad's are no different than any other client - this is a 87U issue..

I don't get the 87U reference. I looked several pages back in this thread and could find no reference to it.

But yes, if range is an issue the RT-AC87U is not a great choice. With 60dB attenuation between it and the client, throughput is less than half that of the RT-N66U.

I've bumped up the mW from 80 to 100 to 150 on my ac66u testing specifically the 5ghz band with my phone and not really seen a difference. Using wifi analyzer (I don't know how accurate it is) the readings really didn't change at all. I did router reboot after the last bump as I thought I read that might be needed but still nothing. For testing purposes I tested in the same small room, line of site with the router.

Honestly with latest Merlin I flashed before trying this out, even with a lower wifi signal showing on my phone I was able to maintain connection streaming music on my phone while doing yard work all around my ~1.5 acre yard. The router is in a small room/office central to the house but I'm thinking about moving into the living room where there is more open space. I'm a tweaker and was just trying to eek out a bit more signal to our phones which live off wifi at home even for making calls.

Yes, on the Tools>Other Settings page you can set a save location. Also remember to check the option to 'Create or reset data files'

That would explain it. At close range when the extra power is not needed, WiFi transmitters are supposed to reduce power automatically.

Instead of trusting the RSSI reports, which can easily vary several dB with just a couple of inches of movement, test throughput when you are far enough away that the RSSI is somewhere in the -60 to -70 range.

Hmmm...I see the same thing (actually about half the time I get no mfg info). My best guess is that either the internet db they use for the lookup is having problems or they changed the api to access it.

Any fork users also have a router that is running Merlin's latest code that they could check and report back?

Problem solved. I see the genuine manufacturer names again and it's being displayed fast now. Thanks a lot John.

Yes...mine is back as well. Earlier this morning I had checked again and was getting no mfg info at all, but is working now.

Thanks for great firmware!

After updating to Update-13E1 on my RT-AC68 everything works fine except that I've noticed that my wireless clients have trouble accessing my printer which is also wifi connected.

example:

if I ping my printer from my laptop (wifi connected) => it does not work
If I ssh from the same laptop to my router and ping my printer from the router => works fine

Any hints what might be causing this? A new security feature restricting wireless clients to communicate with each other?

How are you pinging the printer, by name or IP address? If it's by name try using the IP address instead, it might be a name resolution issue.

Do you have 5ghz clients hook on it? If no = normal
You can even disable it, cpu will run cooler(a bit )_

Go into the UI and under wireless then professional tab select 5ghz then disable radio hit apply and 5 Ghz goes offline. You will also see the 5 Ghz led will go out.

Are you using any unusual subnets? I've see mismatched subnets (on other devices) do this where a 128 is on the PC, but a 255 is used elsewhere.

I was waiting to see your response on name vs ip address, since that was my first thought as well. Generally you can't ping by name unless there is a valid DHCP lease at the router.

I don't know of any change that I've made that would break connections between wifi devices. So, in addition to @hizzo3 's suggestion.....

Is it only the printer you can't ping? How about pinging another wifi connected client?
Are both the printer and the laptop on the same wifi interface (standard vs guest)?
If standard wifi, is AP isolation disabled? If guest, is Access Intranet enabled?
Have you updated your laptop to Win10 recently? I don't know anything specific here, but we're still learning about Win10 quirks.

Can u edit your client list names ?, have 2 ps3 console that only display numbers, like to name them ps3, is that impossible, or do i have to ask ethan hunt
