So happy we found this thread. John's firmware is the most stable one we've ever used for our RT-N66U. After upgrading to this one, the router can handle 25+ devices (15 of which are streaming video 24/24) just fine. With stock or official merlin firmwares, we had to restart our router on a daily basis

Not sure if this has been reported before or not, but there's a cosmetic issue on the Site Survey page with the display of SSIDs with certain characters. In this case, it's the @ symbol showing up as the URL encoded %40 (see attachment).

Not sure if its my imagination or what, but after i flash`d ForkMerlin On RT-N66U, and turn`d off LED lights, the router do not seem as hot as before with stock FW

Dont know whats the right temp. ?

What's the CPU temperature? That's the one that's higher than my other routers here. Not that it's a problem, just a bit higher *smile*.

The N66U does not deliver CPU temp - at least it's not shown in the web interface...

Thank you for this firmware fork. I was having issues with my 2.4 GHZ wireless cutting out sporadically recently using Merlin 378.55. I stumbled upon some threads mentioning this fork gave better wireless signal, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I am glad I did. Not only did it fix the flaky 2.4 ghz signal, I now have full coverage over the entire house, which before I had to use 2 extenders at far ends of the house.

Turned out this was pretty easy.....I'll include an option to leave just the power LED on in the next release.

Noobie to the forums jumping in here. Thanks for this fork/build. I just got a sprint model AC66U and went through the process to get to stock, then Merlin (also thanks) then to this fork when I read about the power output control.

Couple questions:
I flashed this, then did a factory reset from the GUI, setup my network options etc. I then went to power cycle my cable modem...because why not and inadvertently flicked the switch on the power strip shutting off both the modem and the router. The router came back up as if factory reset again, I wasn't sure if that was normal or something I should look into. Not a huge deal to make the changes again and it seems to be operating normally.

I am in the US and was reading about the regions and power output. I have not messed with any region settings and only bumped the power from 80-100mW. What is the max I can do without changing the region...or if do I need to change the region to be able to max the output? -Which leads me to what is the "safe" range without melting the unit lol. -I have a pretty big yard and while my phone seems to be able to hang on to signal I'd like to bump it up (we have to use wifi calling from our cells at home).

You could try 160mW, which would be a 3dB increase. If the router was the only device concerned, that would provide 40% increase in range -- but remember that the phone also has to transmit back to the router, so increasing the router TX power is not the only factor.

The advantage of higher gain antennas like these is that the gain applies to both transmitting AND receiving.

Thanks, I'll bump it up and see what happens. I also saw those antennas linked elsewhere and am thinking about trying them. I just wasn't sure how much increase I could actually play with before the router started ignoring what I type in via the GUI.

And, great point on the router only being one side of the conversation!

You can't really since an iPad is not a device that is user modifiable. Short of the device not working correctly, it is what it is. If you have a bulky case or something on it you could try taking it off.

I've been using this great Fork firmware for quite some time on my RT-N66U which is really great. Many Thanks for all your hard work John. Keep up the good work.

All of the sudden all the clients details in the Network Map have the same manufacturer as attached. I could see the real manufacturers of the devices previously.

Any idea why? The RT-N66U is connected to a Docsis 3.0 modem on the WAN port.

Hmmm...I see the same thing (actually about half the time I get no mfg info). My best guess is that either the internet db they use for the lookup is having problems or they changed the api to access it.

Any fork users also have a router that is running Merlin's latest code that they could check and report back?
