Yes, i think so.. But i reverted back to original a loooong time ago, maybe the last time i put this firmware on, i could have forgotten to set factory default.
So what should i do now?
I have put everything on default now at the TCP settings.
But if i set to factory default, i will loose my nvram settings right?
Just type the values shown in yellow and press Apply (but 2400 could be too large, too, try 300 or 600).

See what disables hardware acceleration at http://www.snbforums.com/threads/hw-acceleration-on-rt-n66u.9888/

I'm running this firmware on my RT-AC66R, the router is in media bridge mode. I have an apple router connected to the bridge and set the apple router into bridge mode as well so it simply functions as a wifi AP. I have an issue that about once a day, the apple, along with the other devices, no longer receive a valid IP. I can statically assign them, but they do not have internet access. Does anyone know what is going on?

Can you give a little more detail on what you mean by 'no longer receive a valid IP'? Do you see the DHCP requests in the system log? Do the devices show up on the syslog status page as having a valid DHCP lease?

IMHO, those two TCP parameters probably aren't contributing to any problems (btw, you can see exactly how many connections you have open on the Tools page near the bottom)

Two things.....
If you came from any level other than the fork when you first loaded the fork, it would probably be a good idea to go ahead and do a factory reset and reconfigure. Lot's of strange things can happen otherwise.

Second, you could try powering down the modem for at least 10 minutes (preferably about 30 minutes) to get your ISP to reset itself with respect to your connection. I've also seen this procedure 'fix' up some strange performance results.

I just did do a factory reset but now i can't really find the proper NVRAM settings ( commits? forgot how they are called )..
I remember that i forgot a line last year so it wasnt working properly. I used to have the best wifi range/speed on 200tx rate. 500 was i think adding too much 'noise', and the default 80 was just not enough.

Oh, btw, i only noticed the problems trough wire, i don't use much on wifi, except for youtube/twitch while being on bed, so my latest comment has nothing to do with my original problem.
I will try the modem suggestion later on..

It goes to 169.so on. I first thought it was something with the apple router, and it probably is. Nothing unusual shows up in the syllogism, but I just set it to debug to see more.

hey guys, I'm using fork version 374.43_2-10j9527.
Would I loose the settings if I update to the latest?
Thank you very much!

...mine did stick when I updated to the latest, yesterday...but I am only using AP-mode with my AC68U

If John's fork uses the drivers that are years old, how do we know these drivers don't have security vulnerabilities themselves and that the new drivers don't have vulnerability fixes? Maybe someone has a changelog from Asus on the binary drivers?

...i don't think that the wireless drivers have anything to do with that SSL stuff...it's the various things that RMerlin has put into the Firmware over the years and John backported a lot but not all.

Well, as RMerlin mentioned that this new SSL vulnerability does not apply to Firmware from late 2014 and newer, here: http://www.snbforums.com/threads/as...lnerable-to-any-of-the-new-sslv2-flaws.30772/
...I wonder what is the case with this fork, as it started from mid 2014.
Sorry if this is mentioned elsewhere already, but I am unable to trace the various backports that went into this fork by John.

Best regards,

Ford
True also for the fork.....I looked it up and the SSL support has been disabled since V07. But, due to other OpenSSL fixes, I'd recommend a minimum level of 1.0.2e as found in the V16E1 release.

You can move between any fork levels without a factory reset and it will keep your nvram settings. I add additional code to take care of initializing any new nvram settings without having to do the factory reset when loading a newer level. The only thing that can happen is if you move backwards in levels, you leave in place some nvram settings which are no longer used.

The only possibility here I can think of is if there were changes in the handling of the various wireless encryption options like WPA2 or the AES algorithms. As far as I know, there have been no documented vulnerabilities there that have fixes. The driver updates primarily change things like allowed channels and tweaks to the power settings.

..cool!
Thank you for the fast response and your efforts...very much appreciated, as always.

Hi, since i did a factory default, i am struggling to get proper wifi speeds, also i don't remember the proper nvram codes, even though i found some.
Anyways, my main question is, when i use puty to telnet to my router and fill in "wl txpwr_target_max", the result is 15.50, 15.50, 15.50 on default, and if i try to put it on 500mW the max is 23.50..
Correct me if i am wrong, but shouldn't this number be higher? If i am not mistaken, it should be 25db on default and 27db on 500mW?
Anyone any idea what i am doing wrong or reading wrong?
(Small correction, factory default on 80% tx showed up as 15.50db) But i can not even load pages with that from the attic )

Hi John, had a couple of questions:

1-Is there a script of some sort that could run after the router has booted up, that could restart the media server? I have had some instances of the server not running after a boot from power off or reboot. It would run after I hit apply on the servers center page (without making changes to any option).

2-If I add another disk to the router and name some folders the same as existing folders on the other (present) disk, what would happen to the content list displayed on devices?

Cheers!

PS-Had my n66u on 16e1 21 days stable but had to power it off since I had to leave for a weekend trip. Still a new personal best. Thanks for this awesome fw.
