Did you do a factory reset after you flashed the firmware? If not, do so then manually configure the router and for good measure flash John's fork again from the web gui.
To be honest I haven't done that, I thought that it factory reset automatically, because it was a completely new firmware and I had the setup everything from the ground up.
But I did it just now.
Factory reset -> flashed John's fork again -> set up again
Hopefully this will help, thank you very much for your kind help.

Edit: funny thing is, that the System Log entries remained untouched.. hopefully everything else what caused these restarts got deleted with the factory reset..

A copy of the syslog is kept in /jffs, which I currently don't touch on a factory reset (would wipe out any custom scripts and certs). I've thought about a separate re-init option for jffs on the same page.

Thanks for the explanation. Btw. I love your build - everything seems to be smoother than it was ever before.. Thank you for maintaining this firmware.
So far no reboot after I've done the factory reset - so also my random reboots should be fixed now :)

Hi, first of all, merry Christmas and Happy New year mate's.
Thanks for great job you have done.

And now my little problem:
All works great.
Just in client list I seen undefined mac - ip's
All my home system is defined mac - own ip's
Example ;
TV - 192.168.1.220
Etc
To know and remember my self.
Last 3 weeks come
Unknown mac address with ip
Seen on screenshot.

That is one from system log:
Dec 27 10:41:15 dnsmasq-dhcp[341]: DHCPDISCOVER(br0) 00:e0:4c:f5:14:14
Dec 27 10:41:15 dnsmasq-dhcp[341]: DHCPOFFER(br0) 192.168.1.161 00:e0:4c:f5:14:14

All router is under password no WAN connection
Ssh - on from local but not from outside.
Static IP from ISP

The devices that have MAC addresses that start with 00:E0:4C have Realtek network adaptors, and the other is some sort of Amazon device (Kindle, Echo, Alexa, FireTV, etc.). Beyond that it's impossible to say any more. Only you know what devices you have.

You could look on the router at System Log > Wireless Log and see if any of the devices are currently connected over WiFi. That might give you a clue as to what they are.

Hi thanks for answer
Realtek is just one I got is main pc that got own ip. But on that pc is install on it wmware but that virtual pc was own IP is well.
When I check all undefended ip's all show me realtek network.
That I confused.
Rest I know that is firestick and has own IP.
When I check wireless log there is just my all clients.
All undefined ip's is just in client list and system log.

To be honest this doesn't sound like it's anything to do with John's firmware. I think it's just something on your network that you're going to have to track down yourself.

thanks! it says:
CPU Model Broadcom BCM5300 chip rev 1
So guess I'm stuck with the old merlin?
That's the MIPS version. As you're asking your question in the "John's fork" thread I'd assumed that's the firmware you wanted to try.

I may be wrong, others should correct me if I am, but factory reset is important after you install firmware, not before you install it.
Factory reset returns all nvram settings to default which can be different from one firmware to another.

Thanks. The B2 appears to have the same CPU as the C1 and E1, but has a different clock rate. Still, there could be other changes under the hood, so I'd rather hear from someone who has tried it or the maintainer so that I don't take a chance bricking the device.
Merlin's firmware has been working fine on this one for over four months.

Hi everyone and a big Up for John for keeping our units alive and safe from new threats.

I have installed the latest firmware for AC66U now through Asus Restoration Tool.

Everything works flawlessy!!!

Now to my question. In future released.....do I need to flash through Asus Restoration Tool or Can I flash within the routers GUI?

THAAAAANKS / Happy now that KRACK and many other things are up to date!
