Update-10 has been released
This update also includes the contents of FixRelease Update-09

Update-10 of the 374.43 update fork is now available. This update also includes the contents of FixRelease Update-09. This release corrects several issues, both existing/legacy problems and a couple introduced with the Update-08 release, as well as including a security update for OpenSSL. I believe this release will greatly reduce a lot of the single occurrence/unexplained problems which have been reported in the past and encourage everyone to consider updating.

Update-10 HighLights:
  • Updated OpenSSL to 1.0.0r (Security)
  • Updated the https certificate to use a SHA256 signature (Security)
  • Fixed the web gui formatting when changing zoom level under IE
  • Fixed resetting the OpenVPN status when applying settings under Wireless/Professional
  • Remember IPv6 settings if simply enabling and disabling the same connection
Update-09 HighLights (FixRelease):
  • Increased stability during boot and reconfigure operations.
  • The new function to allow changing wireless options when in Repeater mode now correctly initializes the gui based on the router model.
  • An intermittent problem with duplicate DHCP leases has been corrected. This exposure has been in the code since the first release.
  • Fixed a bug preventing applying DDNS settings. This was introduced with the backport of Custom DDNS scripting.
  • Minor improvements to the Wireless Log gui (RSSI/SNR showed as 'NA' instead of '0' if not available).

A factory default reset is NOT required if coming from any level of the fork or Merlin 374.42 or 374.43 code. Coming from any other level does require a factory default reset after the code is loaded.

Download information can be found in the first post. If you are coming from Update-07 or Update-08, you can now also directly access the download location from the firmware upgrade page in the gui.

Thanks again, and special thanks to those that helped to verify updates as I worked through this update.

No such issues here with DST it must be a non USA thing.

It's hit or miss with the out of date DST database. Simple fix is to select the manual option and input the correct start/end dates. (And it's still changing...MS had a DST update in the last patch Tuesday :) )

I personally wish they would just drop this DST crap switching clocks every 6 months is a pain in the butt just to gain or lose 60 minutes. o_O

Chile decided to do the intelligent thing: they decided to make DST permanent.

That whole switch back and forth is such non-sense. Takes on average a whole week for the human body to fully adjust to the change. As for the so-called money savings it brings, they forgot to account how much it actually COST for the whole IT world to adjust to that last DST change the US imposed on us a few years ago...

Thanks John I upgraded my N66U to 10 today from update 8. I never reset, just a power cycle. All seems fine so far.:)

I juist used portforwarding option.(most recent march update) I only forwarded port 800 to a internal server with a website. Removed port 80 ( the standard port) and checked the external management option = off.

As a result the port 80 of the asus was accessible from an external ip. I used the https option to workaround this bug but as a result the router is denying all http(s) connections and only ssh and telnet are active. Looking at the http management ( internal of course) i receive the " Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh. etc.. txt"
Any thoughts?

When I was overseas back between 2007-2010, I remember that the DST change crashed all of the credit systems locally for 1 hr. I wish DST would be either 100% or completely removed.

Sorry...must be a Monday...I'm having trouble following everything in your post.
I think the sequence is.....

- Set up a port forward of port 800 to a specific address port 80
- Set external management off....not sure what you mean 'Removed port 80'? At this point with the default options, you should be able to access the router gui via http only from your lan. Note that you cannot test the external access via using the external address from your lan as NAT loopback will kick in and it knows your are really local. You have to be on a completely different network.
- You set https access (only?) via the gui and received the 'Settings have changed message....' message (the port did change). Did you try and reboot after changing the setting?

After some searching the internet i found the management runs on port 8443.
https://192.168.1.1:8443/Advanced_System_Content.asp
Did no know this was the default.
==================so for now the problem is solved===============

Enable web access: NO
APPLY

At this stage i still could reach the webmanagement from the outside http://84.31.xxx.XXX
Looks like a bug or a badly saved setting?

first action: set the web access to HTTPS ( but did not noticed the 8443 setting!)

Removing every port 80 setting
so i noticed the port 80 setting in the port forwarding
https://192.168.1.1:8443/Advanced_VirtualServer_Content.asp
Removed port 80 in the port forwarding list ( only one rule: port 80 was default)

The 8443 port is not accessible form the outside and the only forwarded port is 800.

Hey john,
I just wanted to say thanks and also coming from version 8 to 10 I see the cpu temps decreasing to 76 from 80 celsius. I don't know why I was having 80 degrees all the time with version 8, so this is a very nice update, for me at least! Thanks again and keep up the awesome work!

Well, I went back to my -09Y version.
With -10 my "VPN Details" page is messed up seriously.
It looks like it is trying to display the page twice or something.
I also see VPN IP ranges I don't use.

Am I alone with this?

Just checked with update 10 on my n66u and vpn details page looks fine. I came from update 8 and never done a reset but did power cycle the router.

*can't comment on vpn ip ranges as I have no idea about that.

The "annoying" message is because of browser cache. It will happen every time you reboot the router. So, just clear the browser offline cache and everything will be fine.
In Firefox it is in menu "Tools>Options>Advanced>Network>Offline Web Content and user Data".

I just checked and I can see it acting strange as well....right now I suspect it's just a formatting problem related to the IE scaling fix I did. To fix it, just select PPTP and then toggle it back to OpenVPN and it cleans up.

Chile decided to do the intelligent thing: they decided to make DST permanent.

Why is that the intelligent thing?
The intelligent thing would be to drop DST completely and go back to the STANDARD time. :)

If they want to modify work start times based on available daylight, then shift the start times, not the clock. i.e. 6 months out of the year, everyone collectively agrees to work from 10 to 6 instead of from 9 to 5.

I meant they kept the same time for the whole year. Whether one chooses DST or not matters little, the real problem is the fact that it changes twice a year, and they decided to ditch that.
