Does this resolve itself over time, or is there some recommended therapy for this one?
Give it time....Over the life of the fork I've done a couple of things on networkmap (but nothing new on V17). I delay it starting during boot to make sure it doesn't conflict with the rest of the boot process, and I had to add a little bit of delay to one of the checks because it appeared to be timing out. So the first scan after boot (or a complete manual scan) can take several minutes. It actually queries all 256 addresses in the subnet.
 
AC68U here, updated to this version and it's been very stable for me all day.

The only thing is my printer wakes up about every 21 mins or so. I know this is a known issue in another Merlin thread. Looking that the system log this is what is occuring at that moment.
Note "SEC00159991E1F8" is the device name for my samsung printer

I know there's a beta thread testing out the new NAT discovery, but in meantime is there any command or script I can send thru telnet to put a stop to polling this specific ip or mac address, this laser printer is F*KN noisy when it powers up.

I haven't tried the latest official Asus FW, but the beta thread suggests the problem will still be there in the latest GA release.

What versions?

Version of SCP or John's fork?
SCP is 5.7.4 (not been changed for a while).

All I did was upgrade from 17BA to 17E5 . The performance had been the same with V15/V16 which was doing about 320KB/s . I am getting about 3700KB/s now.

Wish I could take credit....but I seriously have no clue on this one...
 
I have already tried that when the clients couldn't connect and it did not allow them to connect anyway.
Are there some logs I can take when this occurs again?

See anything interesting there?

I can try again with a windows client but it affects mainly android phones and tablets, PS4 and Wireless Bridge (http://www.netgear.com/home/products/connected-entertainment/gaming-home-theater/wnce4004.aspx) and a Gramofon.
With such a wide range of different devices affected I really believe the problem to be on the router end.

Will wait until the next occurrence to troubleshoot on a windows client.

I believe it to be router end as well, for me its happened on PS4 and iPad, but it happens very rarely currently, until it happens again I can't report any findings that John suggested to look at.
I will report back here the next time it happens though.

I think there must be something else going on in your case. This fork wasn't exposed to the same problem as on the main Merlin firmware. After the initial scan at boot, the networkmap code in the fork is event driven when it detects a new device or change to an exiting device or a change in network topology. It doesn't initiate any network traffic on a 1 hour timer like the Merlin firmware (and there is no ~20min timer in the fork).

Additionally, the DHCPREQUEST sequence you are seeing, is actually initiated by the printer (it's the router responding to a printer request to renew it's address).

Finally, I've been wanting to change my laser printer (a Brother 2270DW) from being USB attached to a server to a network printer. I took this opportunity to make the change, connecting it one of the router LAN ports.. That printer has been sleeping now for over 2 hours without waking up.

My best guess is there is something else on your network that is activating the printer. One thing I would check is antivirus programs, such as ESET and Avast, that do network scans trying to log on to detected web pages (assuming your Samsung has a web page for configuration/status).

Sorry, but I don't think there is anything for me to fix here.

Not at all, it sits atop a furniture without any airflow impediments, it even has a clearance of about one meter in each direction.
If it would be temperature, would it not also affect the 5Ghz radio? As this one continues to work perfectly.

I can get readings from the tools menu when the behavior reappears.
 
I have exactly the same problem on my RT-N66U and it has been like this for a long time, not just from fork version 16E1.
The hiding and unhiding of the SSID resolve the issue until a reboot occurs, after the reboot it will be okay for a time until the 2.4Ghz will be impossible to connect.
I've tried checking syslog but I don't find anything there, even the connection attempts do not appear.

I'm using channel 1 at the moment but this happened on all the channels that I've tried, when the problem occurs no device can connect on that band.
I've experienced the same thing with my N66U since day 1 irrespective of firmware version. It can be fine for weeks and weeks and then suddenly it will drop all 2.4GHz connections on a daily basis. Seems to effect the N66U and possibly the AC66U.

Long ago I set up a cron job that restarts the wireless early each morning which helps. The only thing I've noticed is that frequently refreshing the "Wireless Log" can cause it.
 
@john9527 Any chance this update is responsible for my iphones finally backing up to itunes on one of my wired desktops automatically over wifi or is it some weird councidence or the latest ios update? I dont see this fix mentioned anywhere in their changelog.

I had tried everything possible previously but they just would not sync on their own!

Plenty of space between router here.

Yet to have it happen for me again, its very rare for me. hopefully it stays that way.

Didn't touch anything that I know of with respect to iTunes....I'd guess an ios update.
 
@john9527 : I'm a long time user (and lurker here) of your fork (since 8/2014) and couldn't be happier with the amazing features and performance that you and Merlin continue to provide our routers! I'm currently using an AC68U (converted from a TMO1900). I'm not certain if this is an issue on my end, or if it's something with the firmware, but I recently noticed (on 17E2 and 17E5) that the name of the backup generated by the "Save setting (NVRAM)" function is called 'Settings_RT-N66U-AED8_374.43_2.CFG'. I doubt it's a matter of concern, but thought I'd mention it here in case there's something that can be done about it.

I'm not sure if it matters, but I believe I did use your save settings tool when I first set up the router (back on November, 2014) to restore the settings from my previous N66U. Thanks, again, for all you do!

One of two things....either migration mode wasn't used or I added that particular var to be excluded in migration mode in a later update (June 2015).

You can fix things up by telnet/ssh and doing

nvram set daapd_friendly_name=RT-AC68U-XXXX

where XXXX is the last four hex digits of your mac address, which you can get from

nvram get 0:macaddr

We're having a winter snow storm in Denver today. Comcast Internet is out due to snow and ice. I'm trying to use my Android phone with USB tethering as a USB modem for Dual-WAN failover. When setting the USB modem options, I can select 'Manual' for provider, but then have only CDMA related connection options. When I select 'AT&T', my provider, I get an Auto option, then 4G/3G, 4G only, 3G only, etc. When I hit Apply, the router reboots with the USB modem option selected, but now the provider is Italia Telecom and there are other options filled in. I cannot input AT&T and have it stick or have the other options remain blank.

There seems to be a couple of things that I'm not expecting:
1) In Manual, I would expect to select between CDMA and GSM options to pick what I need...not just CDMA
2) When selecting a provider like AT&T, I would expect it to stay selected after hitting Apply. Further, I would expect that the dial number and other inputs for the provider would remain blank if I had blanked them before hitting Apply.

Firstly, are my expectations off? What is typical behavoir for this?This is the first time I've tried to do this and don't know what to expect.

Second, @john9527 , is it possible (or worth your time) to create an 'Android' or 'iOS' phone tether provider option in the drop down menu?

edit: looking at the linked post above closer... the images show another screen (3rd image) that gives an option to select an android phone. Is that code in this fork? Am I missing how to get to it? Unfortunately the poster doesn't indicate the fw version.

TIA (Using my Android phone tethered directly to my laptop atm.)

Following up... further research indicates more recent Asus-WRT fw versions have a 'tethering mode' option in the USB modem selection for dual-wan. Is this available for this fork?

I haven't touched anything from the original supported modem types....for a few reasons...
- It's harder than if would first seem. The modem support is spread across the gui, a couple of .c modules, and several .sh scripts (some of which are completely new in the later levels)
- I don't know if there is a dependency on the USB drivers themselves, which I would prefer not to touch
- There have been times in the past where Asus updates have broken support for existing modems. At least here, what works has been stable.
- I don't have any way to test any of the modem code
- There hasn't been a lot of demand for additional modem support

I'm willing to add it to my 'todo' list, but frankly there are other things at this point I consider a higher priority. I'd also need people willing to sign up to do test/debug on any development builds.

Thanks John, no worries.. understood about the other priority items. This is the first time I've tried to use dual-wan and Android, so for me it is more of a question of am I not doing something right rather than a request to add this into the fork if it isn't already in there. If I really have to have the Android linkup, I can always flash a later version that has the support built in.
