Been using the same USB stick for well over a year with no problems. Checked it out on a Windows box and it has no problems. Another different brand stick also can't do USB3 on the router. Very strange at least it still works in slow motion!
I've just tried plugging in two different USB3 flash drives into my router's USB3 socket and both of them were detected with no problems.

Can you wait until the router has fully booted at then plug in your USB drive. Then show us the messages in the syslog.

P.S. "Reducing USB 3.0 interference" was set to Disable.
 
No, I control the ssid of my repeater in any 3 of the firmware stock, merlin, yours. and on the stock asus firmware you can change it to any channel you like, can also change operating mode and mhz. so why not on yours too? trust me i've used this as repeater for 2 years now. These things can be done on it. I can revert to stock and take screenshots if you like to see?
Mike, what router model do you have?

AFAIK the wireless chipset is not capable of repeating on a different channel than it is receiving on (happy to be proved wrong). Are you perhaps, repeating on the 2.4GHz band and running 5GHz as a normal access point?

N66R or N66U. Tomorrow I will revert back to stock and take plenty of screenshots detailing this. I use this router as a repeater connecting using 2.4ghz. On the stock asus firmware you can change the channel of the 2.4ghz and 5ghz. You can not get to these settings through the menus on the left hand side. You must click on the name of the 2.4 or 5 in top right corner and it will take to you the basic settings which you can change and save and Yes they do take effect. I have checked through elevated cmd in windows 10 and various other ways like wifi analyzer.

Thanks Mike. The output of System Log > Wireless Log will be particularly interesting.

There are definitely special chars in your screenshot. Special characters also include double-byte accents (just in case)
Also check your nvram utilization.

Interesting. NVRAM usage is at 83% and very basic names and passwords used. I guess it's time for a factory reset after doing an NVRAM backup using your software tool. Will definitely tell me if something has gone wrong with the router one way or the other. Thanks again for checking.
 
Sorry, what I am looking at? Everything looks fine there.

Syslog after insertion of USB drive after reboot.

It may look OK but it takes 6x the time to transfer from router to Win 10 machine using FastCopy utility program. Tested with 3 different Win 10 boxes both wired and wireless. Also put USB stick in USB2 port and had identical results! I have been using these programs for well over a year and it has suddenly stopped working at full speed.

More log prior to disk insertion.

I ran a single file test and it transferred @40MB/s over wireless so that's USB3 speed
I may have run into a Samba buffering problem....I have been using auto

OK a misunderstanding on my part. When you said you had a problem with "USB 3 speed detection" I assumed that it wasn't detecting the drive as a USB3 device. We can see in the logs that it is detecting it correctly. It is using the xhci_hcd driver and not ehci_hcd.

Presumably these transfers are over SMB? Try using FTP and see if there's any significant speed difference.

I had the same misunderstanding.

For SMB transfer speed, definitely try adjusting the SMB buffer size. The old fixed value before the change to Auto was 64K

I thought it was speed a speed detection problem but was mistaken. A single file 3gb in size transfers @40MB/s over wireless so that's working as USB3.

I guess my problem is the Samba share has over 10.000 files mostly small in size and enough to cause the file copy utility to choke somewhat.
Will have to look at Samba buffers currently set at auto.

I did some poking around in the code, and in the fork that page is deliberately disabled in repeater mode.
In later code, there is a new function test that's checked, isSupport(concurrep), that allows the main wireless page to be shown in repeater mode. Unfortunately, the test to set that new function is in some new closed source components so I can't see what it's doing. So at this point, it looks as if that is something you will only be able to use on Asus or 380 Merlin.
 
Hi dear comrades and friends!
On the recommendation of a friend "John9527" using firmware: RT-AC66U_374.43_37E4j9527

OpenVPN client in the router with keys and certificates 4096 characters-works great!

In attempt to include one more, the second OVPN the client in a router-there is a message that there is little space in memory and the router can hang up or reboot. But nevertheless, the problem is solved, one OVPN client works well and keys and certificates of 4096 characters are saved and written to the router.

Here is if would still do in router function TOR-Internet, was at all super! Great!

Thanks to the Creator of the firmware!:) This is a very useful and necessary thing, it is an invaluable help for people and ordinary users of Asus routers.

Digger, heard the dudes in charge in your area don't allow OPVN any more; how is that going for you. Good luck.

I've gotten a RTR-AC66U (1st revision apparently) from a friend since my old router went bust. It says it's currently running 3.0.0.4.374_979 to which I assume only the last part is important.

From the initial post it seems I'd be able to flash 374.43 37E4 from the web interface but from the upgrade matrix file it seems that I'd need to use the restoration tool (AC66/ASUS). I've read enough to understand that I could always go back to recovery mode in case something happens but I'd rather do it right the first time.

I believe the relevant line in the document is the one that says: "Fork V28 or earlier 'L' Builds (2)". So just upgrade to V37E4 through the GUI. After the router reboots just enter the minimum amount of information to get logged back into the GUI and then do a factory default reset. Now when the router reboots again you can set it up properly.

Merlin 384.8 there is no wireless settings tab and if you click the SSIDs for each band it doesn't do anything. You have to put in http://192.168.1.2/Advanced_Wireless_Content.asp. Then the wireless settings come up and you can change settings. Was the same with Asus 32799. I haven't tried 45149.

The links from the SSID to the wireless page are what I was referring to when I said that page was deliberately disabled in the fork. I could add the link, but without having the 'concurrep' support it's likely to not work or be unstable. Sorry, can't support on the fork.

Yup, Samba does not like lots of small files. Upload them as a single tar file and extract that on the router, i.e. without Samba.
