While we're on the subject of daemons listening on 0.0.0.0, I would love to have a way to disable lpd and u2ec permanently. :D
 
The only time I see this in my logs is when the WAN interface is offline. So that's at router startup or shutdown, or when I unplug the WAN cable.
I take back me not seeing it.....I also see it during startup and shutdown.....
 
Strangely, it is the same as the LAN MAC address (seems to be a Broadcom quirk) unless you have changed it on the WAN page (MAC Address/MAC Clone).

It's also written on the white label on the back of the router.

I somewhat confirm this but actually saw a different WAN MAC address when I tried Fresh Tomato (FT).
* With AsusWRT variants, the WAN MAC address seems to be the same as the LAN MAC. In my case, this address ends with 8.
* When I installed FT, the WAN MAC reported by its GUI was the exact same except for the last digit which was 9 and not 8. As such, my ISP DHCP failed.

I manually assigned the address which ends with 8 for my WAN MAC and ISP DHCP started to work but performance was terrible. 2 Mbps instead of 100.

I'm waiting for my ISP to have its full staff (currently on low staff because of covid) to change my router and have them enter the new router MAC for their DHCP and I'll manually emulate that new MAC on my Asus with FT to see if it makes a difference. Of course I'll move back to John's fork after [emoji1]

Recommendation. Whenever you change mac address (or change routers of course) power down your modem for at least 15min. It will potentially avoid a lot of strange issues.

It generally means your router isn’t getting an IP address from your ISP’s DHCP server. :confused:

Is your router working and connected while these messages appear? Maybe post output from this command:

Maybe you have a very short lease from your ISP?

It only appears once during a reboot (expected). But you do have a short lease of 10 minutes (600 seconds) from your ISP. Maybe it happens more frequently when it’s time to renew the lease?
 
Next release has been posted. This release provides support for the adding of custom pages to the WebUI by addons developers. There are a few other new features and updates, but no critical fixes. Install at your convenience :)

Please see the first post and review the Changelog for the updates.

Just a reminder for everyone to look beyond the obvious...

I was having intermittent DNS failures, which I was blaming on the DNS provider unable to handle the increased traffic. When it happened again, I decided to check my modem log and low and behold it was filled with T3 and T4 timeouts and a really bad upstream power level. Turns out I had a cable splitter that had gone bad! Replaced and now the modem logs are perfectly clean and no more DNS outages.

It pays to check the hardware ;)
