@john9527 , would you please provide a brief description of DNS handling for different combination of the following options:
  • VPN / "Accept DNS Configuration"
  • VPN /"WAN clients use WAN DNS Server (DoT unavailable)"
  • VPN / "Redirect Internet traffic"VPN / "Rules for routing client traffic through the tunnel"
  • WAN/ "DoT server access"
  • WAN/ "Enable DNSSEC support"
At the first look the combination of ("Accept DNS Configuration" == "DoT" && "WAN clients use WAN DNS Server (DoT unavailable)" == true) looks not clear.

Personally I have the following practical problem: there are relatively fast WAN and slow VPN that also provides slow but secure DNS (that resolves all requests internally). The local government blocks some sites (e.g. linkedin.com). The blocking is two-level: DNS MITM attack (stub address substitution) and IP. So the first solution that came to mind is to use VPN routing table with the list of blocking sites and a fast DoT server (Clowdflare seems fast according different tests). On practice there are some issues with this setup: several times I have observed incorrect rendering of the blocked pages (probably we have switched to the secondary non-DoT DNS while rendering). Of course I may forward all DNS traffic to the secure DNS server but it is noticeable slow. Manual switching to VPN interface and back just to access linkedin.com seems too much. Is there an elegant solution?

The problem is when we turn on wifi, these routers reboot itself. Only know method for resolve this is disable support for ipv6 on router (but here, its not work). Maybe a problem with driver for wifi module. I can confirm here with android OREO and PIE that reboots my router. Have you tried john9527's LTS RMerlin fork for your out of support router?

It hasn't had Asus firmware updates for almost a year now.
 
I have several devices with different android versions, 5.1.1, 7.1.2, 8.1 and 9.0, also ancient ipod touch 1G, asus P525 with windows mobile 6.5 and some junk HP notebook, and my AC66 not rebooting because of that
This is happening with some especific devices, like google pixel and oneplus. Do you have it? More cases can be view in searches, but i found very few information about it

Running Oneplus 5t & 3t with the latest version of John's fork; no problem as you've described.

I would advise you to update your router to this firmware anyway, due to the features introduced.

I made it! But no luck. Now my oneplus6 cant connect to router. Its stay at "obtain ip address"...
In other hand, router doesnt reboot, stay online

EDIT: Wait...its seems like ok now! Maybe the router had some time to put all things in place after the factory reset + update this fork. I cant say what is, but it waiting some time since this procedure. I dont understand mush of JSSF partition. Just follow the instructions for update, and after a time its seems ok now (~30 minutes).

Well, unhappy my AC66R reboots again, but this time AFTER enabled IPV6 function (as I say before, people in google link support mention this function must be disabled for router still ON).

For info, I will post my last logs of the router (before its reboots at 31 december):

I try to stay connected on notebook and phone. If just notebook is ON by wifi, its normal. When turned ON wifi on my OP6... router reboot, as some people reported in searchs.

Did you do a reset to factory defaults before flashing the LTS firmware? If you did, you need to do it again.

Did you use a new SSID on the router afterward? If not, you should change it to one with no special characters.

Did you 'forget' the network on your phone(s)? If not, you should do so, reboot the phone(s) and then re-associate with the router again.

Did you do a full reset network settings on the phone(s)? If not, you should do so.

I didnt make all this steps yet, but will try this later. It seems like with tomato firm other people resolve this. Its sad, never imagine that will happen just because switch the phone, and i like this router...
