Howdy folks,

This forum has grown into a fairly active community lately - which is really awesome :) Makes it hard at times for me to keep up, but the good thing is it also means I can trust other users to help those looking for guidances in their router setup.

The oldschool Internet user that I am still hangs out a lot on IRC. Even tho I'm mostly idling there while doing other things, I still connect to Dalnet almost nightly (and often while at work too, tho I'm usually just idling there except during my lunch).

So, I thought it might be interesting to have an IRC channel going on, where people can hang together, and also be able to help one another in a live environment.

I got the #asuswrt channel registered on DALnet. Note that this wouldn't be just for Asuswrt-Merlin users, but would also be open to people running the original firmware, or even Tomato/DD-WRT on their Asus router.

For more info on DALnet, see their official website: http://www.dal.net/

As for which IRC client to use - I admit I haven't really kept track of them these past few years. Personally I use Trillian because it's already handling all my other IM duties.

See you out there!

Hoo boy...IRC....it's been ages since I've used mIRC!

Bravo for using trillian! I know the developers personally.

Nice :) Been using it since the early 1.x or 2.x days (aside from version 3.x because it was a bit heavy on the system resources at the time).

oh gawd, this addiction again?

hint - leave a small linux server up and running.
install weechat, openssh, screen.
log in to the channel, and . . . lurk . . . forever.

or run an IRC client from your router itself, if you really want to be a fulltime lurker ;)

Howdy,

I would be interested in learning how this is done. Cheers!

I am also interested in running and IRC client on my RT-N66U but I'm not really sure where to start, is their a tutorial/guide anywhere?

Heck with the original irc2 client and screen I did a lot of it multitasking esp on an xterm.... Remember the DEC mips based workstations and IBM had Unix workstations with Ppc chip

I "grew up" on IRC. Been using it since the 90s. Been a Linux user for since then also so for me it's Xchat. Bring it on! :)

I really like this idea, but may I ask why you chose DALnet and not Freenode?

Because I was familiar with DALnet, and been idling there for a few years already.
