I can't buy this as no Merlin firmware :(
I DIDN'T purchase this router specifically because it isn't currently RMerlin supported.
Although, I am watching this thread in hope that these "next-gen" routers get the RMerlin Magic (or perhaps the 2nd-gen versions).
ya ya I know he hasn't received the source code, etc and that is why I don't ask IF a device will be supported, and I wait patiently.

EDIT: I can't check the GT-BE98 because I don't have one, but my GT-BE98_PRO is HwVer 1.0.
@RMerlin I'm curious if you're currently usingll the GT-BE98 Pro as your daily driver and if so what are your impressions so far? Thanks!

No, I'm using the GT-AXE16000. I need my main router to be running Asuswrt-Merlin for my personal needs.

I was hoping you were maybe using a pre-alpha asuswrt-merlin test fw version on your BE98 Pro. :)

I appreciate the response back @RMerlin. Take care!

I have tested the new Firmware during last day.
As I see, some known/reported bugs were really fixed, like hidden SSID for 6 GHz or parental control bug where internet restriction was not working at all, etc.
There are also new features like Wi-Fi MLO, even for guest networks.

However, a really annoying bug (which was also present in version 33570) where LAN speed -especially via Wi-Fi- is capped and unstable if at least one VPN client is active is still present.
This means, if I start e.g. a file copy (or an internal speedtest) via Wi-Fi using a 2x2 AX client the transfer speed is capped at around 800 Mbps. In this case the CPU usage of one CPU core hits 99%. Starting a parallel file copy using another client will be fatal.
Without any VPN clients active, the system is more stable, and the transfer speeds are far better (1,5-2 Gbps using the same setup).
At first I have performed a dirty flash from 33001, but after a factory reset and doing some basic (clean) setup the result is the same.
Rolling back to 33001...again. :(

Any particular reason why this wouldn’t be as fast as my old AX86U?

Used to get around 1100Mb/s on 5GHz 160MHz channels on my iPhone 15 Pro, doesn’t reach that on either the 5GHz or 6GHz channel on the BE98.

Is it just early firmware issues or is there a reason it would be slower?

The built in speed test is maxing out my connection so doesn’t seem to be a WAN issue.

Hi everyone! New member here 👋

I just set up a BE98 to replace an AX88U Pro / RP-AX58 combo nearly a week ago - luckily I got it when the 10% off offer was on!

At the moment, the only WiFi 7 enabled device I have is my S24 Ultra - although I've just also upgraded both my son's and my own gaming PC's with Intel BE200 cards, Windows 11 doesn't support WiFi 7 as yet.

My question is around the 320MHz channel width on the 6GHz frequency. I've got it set to channel 5 and 320MHz (as there's no other 6GHz use in my neighborhood) but WiFiMan on my phone resolutely reports this as 160MHz?

Edit: answered my own question ha ha, version 2.7.0 of WiFiman fixes this issue apparently - if only it was available via Google Play... https://community.ui.com/releases/WiFiman-Android-2-7-0/d2bb759f-2e44-4770-adfb-172a45ec7392

Edit 2: 2.7.0 installed and 320MHz channel showing correctly now.

Did you report it to ASUS?

kernel 4.19 eol Dec 2024
Forum Link above.
I'm curious if there have been any HW/SW revisions that have updated kernels? Purchasing this router no longer seems viable at the current price (not that it ever fit into my budget).

As per RMerlin explanation this would require a new SDK. Perhaps not happening.

A really annoying bug with the current firmware is if you reboot the router via the GUI, or as I've now also found on a reboot schedule, it won't allow devices to reconnect via WiFi, you just get an incorrect password error.

To correct it, you have to connect via a wired connection, make a change on the Wireless page (I remove a character from a password and then put it back in) and Apply. When the radios restart, WiFi connectivity works again.

Reported to ASUS via the feedback page on the router... (I've also seen this mentioned on another forum too so I'm not the only one)
