Can anyone assist me with how I would go about tracking how much data/bandwidth another computer on my home network is using? I've attempting using software like wireshark and the activity monitor on my router, but unfortunately I've only been able to track bandwidth usage and applications from my own computer, but I really am trying to figure out how to track the data usage of other computers connected to my router.
In short, I'm in a rural area for quite sometime and the DSL speed is very limited. When one of the household members seems to log their computer on to the net the ping and lag goes through the roof, so I'm attempting to find out which computer it is and what applications they're using that are taking up so much bandwidth thus lagging the rest of us on the network. Can anyone help me identify what software and how it needs to be configured to be able to identify and see what applications/what computer is bogging down the rest of us on the network? All the software I've attempted to use thus far only seems to analyze my applications and bandwidth usage. My idea for the solution to this problem would be: I would just like to identify the computer (although I think I know which one it is) causing the lag and hogging all the bandwidth and limiting the bandwidth manually myself, or blocking the applications that that computer is using to take up all the data to keep the network running smoothly.
I am using a netgear nighthawk r7000 router, and unfortunately it isn't one of the routers on the DDWRT supported device list so I was unable to try that software.
Thank you so much for any assistance anyone can provide in advanced.
