Hi,

I purchased a WR810n Tplink travel router from Ireland on Ebay not aware that our plugs in the USA are different from those in the EU. I haven’t received the item yet and probably will not be able to use it. Anyone have experience with EU tplink devicesand what are my options? Guess I lost $38! Cant believe a travel router doesnt have multiple plug configurations available!

Thanks

Look around for an adapter that will let you plug the EU plug into a US 110V outlet. Fairly common acessory at travel stores. If they want more than $5.00 keep shopping as this is a simple mechanical device no more complicated that a triple tap. When the WR810 arrives look at the specs on the power supply/wall wart. It is probably rated for both 110V - 220v . If not then you will need to buy a new power supply which online can probably be found for $10 - $15.

If I got to buy an adapter its a loss. Whole point to buy this router was to have a small form factor. This sucks. Thanks.

I suggest you look harder. The adapter I have is only slightly larger than a standard US two prong plug. You also have the option to cut the EU plug off and replace it with a US plug.

Have you never travelled outside of the America's? I thought everyone had a bunch of these sort of things in their suitcases. They cost almost nothing (unless you buy them at the airport :D).

I think the plug might be removable just like how the ipad charging block adapter is built. Maybe interchangeable. I really am hoping for a one piece modular solution. Thanks.

Yes it looks like that sort of idea. But I doubt you'd find a compatible part, the connector looks non-standard and the whole thing is "bevelled". There's a good video here. Judging by the plug it looks like an EU 2-pin model rather than a British 3-pin model, but I expect the connector would be the same.

Yeah I saw the same video. Already posted on TP-Link for a solution, maybe they have an interchangeable part, but most likely I'll have to sell it or take a loss. Should have been more carefull.

Link doesnt load. :(

Anyhow at least the EU version loads OpenWrt easier without restrictions compared to the US one.

For those who were suggesting cut off the plug and rewire it...

Kinda hard with this one - check out the form factor...

(US model here)

Word to the wise - in the US - buy US market gear...

As many noted - the mains connector is one thing, but there's also the regulatory domain and FCC approval - and customer care may or may not help you out if things go awry...

Going to open a claim on eBay that seller didn’t identify the product as an EU specific item. No where in the description did it state those specifics.
