New Around Here
Hey guys, just bought an Asus rt-ac68u. I want to install Asuswrt-Merlin on it, but i don't know how . I couldn't find a guide in this forum. Can anyone give me a link with the exact steps i need to take ? Also do i need to make a preparation before installing Merlin, like setting the router's wifi settings first or upgrading the official firmware ? Thanks.
P.S Also what is the best (most stable) Merlin firmware version at the moment ?

Very simple: Just download as described here by Merlin and install via Web GUI of the router.

Depending of the age/version of the firmware, it would be good if you install Merlin's version .55 first (to update the CFE/BIOS and repartition the Flash Memory) and then the latest one.

Always the latest one (current version .57) - do not forget do do a Factory Reset after the update!

So if i understood correctly first i install 378.55 then i do a factory default reset, then i install 380.57 and do a factory default reset again and lastly i manually configure the router's wifi settings ? Sorry for the stupid questions but i have never done it before.
P.S What do you mean by "to update the CFE/BIOS and repartition the Flash Memory" ? Is this automatically done by just flashing to 378.55 or it must be manually done

Only one Factory Reset needed at the end. ;)

Yes, that's the reason for the intermediate step to .55 version. :D

I just got a 68u and went straight from the factory installed FW to the 378, reset and then went to latest FW (380) and am wondering if I should of done an intermediate update also?

If you needed to, you would know (it wouldn't have let you update to the latest).

I have one more question. My router is version A1. Is it much worse than the B1 version? I know that the main difference between the two is the newer cpu which is running at 1Ghz while the older is running at 800Mhz. So is the performance of the B1 much better than A1 ? I'm wondering if i should change it if possible.
