ook a shot on this 102.3-alpha1 before the family arose for the day of festivities, then they can test for me & us this new code! I like to update the AiMesh node unit's first, before Gateway Router. My GT-BE98_Pro AiMesh node rejected this alpha code install on top of the ASUS stock code
You need to run the command on any node you intend to upgrade, not just the main router.

Only way I can think of to issue that command "nvram set DOWNGRADE_CHECK_PASS=1" to an AIMesh Node, is take the Node offline, make it function as a Router, enable SSH, issue command, then update the firmware. Is there an easier method?

You connect to an AiMesh node via SSH exactly the same way as any other router.

An AiMesh node duplicates the settings of the primary router.

If you enable SSH on the primary, it should be enabled on the node.

Thanks, wasn't aware SSH enablement, also mirrored down to Nodes. Connected Ethernet cable to AiMesh Node from Windows laptop, SSH logged on, ran the command. Then on Gateway Router GUI "manual firmware upload" on the AiMesh Node. As before "firmware unsuccessful", very shortly after upload begins, the AiMesh Router rebooted, then came back into the AiMesh configuration.
|Thinking afterwards, should I have disconnected the ethernet cable between the AiMesh Node & Gateway Router when logging into Node via SSH?

Tried the rescue process "power off unit, hold in reset button for at least 10 seconds, until power light starts slowly blinking". Power light wouldn't start blinking on this process, just on solid (only light on). Tried several times.

Time for a seasonal drink, to think of next actions on this quest, besides an additional drink....lol.

No worries. Just didn't want you wasting time doing all that when it should not be required technically. Most user settings do mirror (not all) but SSH for sure do.

I don't think it should of made a difference if you disconnected anything myself but I'm just an addon dev for AMTM lol. I don't know for sure what your encountering.

Sounds like an appropriate plan for this time of year 🤣😉 I would recommend MerlinAU; but it doesn't help to if your stock and even worse, trying to technically downgrade instead of upgrade. This is not my area, ask me about upgrading on Merlin instead of downgrading, and I can speak with more confidence lol

You actually connect using ssh while the AiMesh node is connected and operational. Just determine the node's IP address if it's not fixed, and connect using the same port and credentials that you'd use to connect to the primary router, substituting the node IP address.

Thanks heaps @visortgw !!! Logged via SSH into the AiMesh Node on it's IP address. Ran the required down-grade command as it was on ASUS stockcode, then was able to update the AiMesh node with the new Alpha2 code (Xmas present today from RMerlin) via the Gateway Router GUI. Once that completed, also updated the Router Gateway to the Alpha2 code level.

Thanks guys for the help, tips. Onwards now, for the family testing tomorrow, for "us". Enjoying a nice drink now, a family & ASUS Router learning day.
