Evening all,

I want to go back to Merlin, is it possible to install on to an N66U currently running DD-WRT via the normal Admin > FW Upgrade method, or do I need to revert back to Asus stock FW, and then do a Merlin upgrade?

Thanks in advance!
Jim

There is no difference installing Asus firmware or Merlin build firmware. Download the file unzip it and install. Make sure you do a factory reset after the install.

Change the .trx ending on it to .bin and install it through the upgrade tab on dd-wrt.

Be careful. DD-WRT encrypts the router password and you can get locked out in the transition. The following is from a DD-WRT to Tomato wiki, but I believe it can also apply to Merlin's fw.

If you're upgrading from the DD-WRT firmware, telnet into the router *before* upgrading and type "nvram get http_passwd". The result will be your password in Tomato. This is necessary because of a change in DD-WRT's way of using the standard http_passwd variable.

I've done the steps I've listed probably 50 times. Never had trouble. Of course reset the dd-wrt router before flashing back to asus/Merlin.

Renamed the .trx to .bin, flashed from DD-WRT admin, it flashed ok, did a reset and all was good. Didn't need to use the encrypted DD-WRT password but obtained it prior anyway.

Finally my 5Ghz network is back and I seem to be squeezing an extra 1.5mbps on speedtests. I was sure something wasn't right with DD-WRT

Thanks for the help guys!

That's the problem with DD-wrt. it's packed with features but stability is not one off them.
Merlin misses some features but it's stable and at the end of the day.. that's what counts for me.
