New Around Here
Hello! My ASUs rt-ac68u is running the latest build of Merlin. For months now my internet connection stops for about 3 seconds every 20 minutes (roughly if I were to put a time to it) I have actually caught this in action on the router settings and the connection on the home page just says ‘internet disconnected’ and then it changes back to connected after less than 5 seconds. If I’m gaming everything stops and any voice communication slurs and garbles and then with in a second or two everything is back. Nothing I can discern from the administration logs is pointing me to the issue but I’m not a pro at interpreting it.
This happens on wired and wireless, I have replace all cables with brand new ones also and I have experienced it on multiple different devices simultaneously. I have spoken to my isp and run packet loss tests and any other test that google suggests. I am now at a point where the issue has to be either the router (I have fiddled and changed and looked at any setting that could help with no effect) or my isp. Would rolling back firmware help? Or is the router itself at the end of its life?
Can anyone help me?

I run a raspberry pi4 with Pi-hole wired to the router, this has been replaced with a different pi and fresh Pi-hole installation and has had no effect (though I knew it wouldn’t) I also run a plex server on a windows pc that is always on, also wired to the router. Also I live in the UK

Plug a single computer directly into the ethernet port on your ISP's modem. Use that connection for a while. If the problem still exists, then your router is fine and you'll need to convince the ISP that it really is a problem with their equipment (assuming that the modem belongs to them) or with the line to your house.

Do you have access to the logs on the modem? Any events that caused the modem to lose its connection to the ISP should be listed there.

SSH to router and enter these commands:

nvram set asuscfeATEMODE=0
nvram set asuscfecommit=1

Then reboot. See if that solves it.

Sadly I am not the only one in the house and I can't plug just my system into the router, I actually have a DrayTek Vigor 130 arriving tomorrow to replace the bt openreach modem one that I was supplied. In regards to the WAN DHCP lease time, where would I find this? under Internet Status on the router, lease time always says "Renewing..." and Lease expires "Expired" this has been displaying this for quite some time. I do have on Adaptive QoS currently but that was just an attempt to fix the issue, the issue started when I did not have it on. What do these SHH commands do? Just so im sure Im not doing something I cant undo if it causes any issues?

When you are logged into the router, on the left hand side look for "Advanced Settings" then select WAN option, 3rd option

Scroll down right to the bottom and the DHCP frequency query, select Continuous, and make sure at the top the WAN settings are set to Automatic, WAN DNS Automatic then hit apply.

Then SSH into your router and type those commands. I am with Sky and solved my issues.

This is all I see at the bottom of my WAN settings?

Ah okay thanks, and I should still SHH the commands? Cheers! Will report back

Also, how is the modem connected to the router? Do you have the modem bt openreach from LAN1 to WAN port on the Asus at all? Just to confirm also? The WAN port on the Asus should be the blue one with E or Internet on.

From LAN1 on the modem to WAN on the router, I had bt ask for photos of how I had everything setup and they said it was correct on the modem side, I definitely have it in the WAN port on the router too.
