Internet speed lost after from laptops adding AC68U

Any ideas as to whats gone wrong gratefully receved.
We have used a AC68U in Access Point mode (I had too many problems with a server and ports being open to the web with it). My old NETGEAR DGND3700v2 had no problems with the server and all ports were fully shielded. But its Wi-Fi was poor in our house.
When we had both running, the AC68U was giving me 780Mb on the network. BUT when testing the internet I was getting between 3 and 23Mb. A second laptop was the same. A notepad was however getting the same as a desktop 37Mb.
The AAC68U is one side of a single brick wall (just having to have one long cable enabled us to do that). Which was one
thing effecting the Netgear before, but all the networking is where it is..
I have been having an internet problem so have been testing on a frequent bases and the Netgear WAS getting 37 when that was available. It clearly has to have Wi-Fi speed, usually that was about 70 to 80Mb.
I went back to just the Netgear and it also was only managing the lower internet speeds. Running both I again have speeds ranging from earlier today of 25 and now 13Mb. The desk PC had 37 each time.
We have tested with wi-fi on and off with both of them.
One laptop has an Intel AC the other an N Wi-Fi card. Borg=th used to get 37 ansd both have been used next to both routers as well as away from them In both cases distance made no difference.
We are at a total loss as to why both laptops should lose the ability to get full internet speed which ever wireless router they are connected to.

Have run network tests and they are good, upload is 114 and down is 270 and loaded the beta firmware, nearly 100Mb slower but no problem!
