Mines well ventilated , standing up on it's stand in a cool room and...

Current Temperatures: 54 °C - 53 °C
 
same here 54-55 C. uptime 20 days.. no problem at all. :D
never see below 50, even after 1 night turn off.

Agree - 55 is nothing to worry about. My overclocked beast is perfectly stable at 58-62 range.
 
My ac56u is 75 °C.

I started thinking that some AC56Us have higher leakage parts than others.
You are not the only person reporting such high temperatures.

High leakage ASIC means that it requires higher current to operate at the defined performance level. That could be one of the reasons why AC56 CPU is clocked at only 800MHz

Is your router in well ventilated position or it is locked in Guantanamo Bay errr... cabinet?

It's not at its final place, because I'm struggling with it.
It's on the desk now, and it is 75 °C during samba copy/torrent.

I put a large fan (30cm:)) behind it and it reached 52 °C in 20 minutes.

I supposed that this high temperature cause the freezes during samba large file copy, but not. When the soc was 54-55 °C it froze as well. :(

my AC66 runs 52c on 2.4 , 63c on 5.0 , wondering why so hot ? My RT N66 ran at 50c 2.4 , 54c 5.0

Those SoCs are designed to run at these temperature. Just don't worry about it.

Yeah, but IMHO Asus should've installed fans in the very first place, i.e., in RT-N66U and RT-AC66U.

Why? If the chip is designed to run at these temperature, what's the point? What you might consider "too hot" means nothing if Broadcom says "it's a normal temperature". The latter is what matters. If Broadcom designed the bootloader to allow the chip to run at full speed until they reach 80C, then it means the silicon has no problem at all running at 60-65C.
 
I add small Adda Fan 60mmx60mm,
very small, silent,
now it average 46, 43 C

that's exactly what I am planning to do... just cannot find a fan I like (i.e. high quality quiet fan with enough cfms at low rpm).

What fan did you install?
Any pics to share your solution?
 
Mine RT-N66U run between 48°C & 51°C for both bands.

I'm using Adda Fan AD0612MX-A70GL, 2 Pieces
12V, 0.14A, with Molex Adaptor, the fan came with 3 pin, you must manually convert it to molex or other DC coaxial adapter and or you can probably use old phone charger with at least 3.36Watt power, phone charger usually 5V so it should have at least 0.7A
