Just got my new AC86U and unfortunately I find these in the logs especially during CPU intensive task like transferring files to/from its USB3.0 share
Code:
May 5 12:43:51 kernel: thermal cooling_device1: turn off CPU#1
May 5 12:43:51 kernel: IRQ6 no longer affine to CPU1
May 5 12:43:51 kernel: CPU1: shutdown
May 5 12:45:03 kernel: thermal cooling_device1: turn on CPU#1
May 5 12:45:03 kernel: CPU1: Booted secondary processor
May 5 12:45:03 kernel: Detected VIPT I-cache on CPU1
May 5 12:45:03 kernel: IRQ6: affinity change from 0 to 1

Thus I check the temp and I see the temp of the device ranging from 95 to 100C on ambient around 30C.

Is this normal for you guys without any kind of active cooling? Should I do a RMA?

From memory mine ran around 70C, but after attaching some fans I've almost cut that in half. Not sure how accurate the wifi radio temps are as they barely decrease.

In any case the fact the CPU is shutting down due to thermal throttling is a pretty bad sign, I'd RMA it.

Maybe hardware fault.
Cortex-a53 is low power so it is able to keep low temperature.
I guess it will not exceed 70 degrees in the summer.
Mine is around 65C.

That temperature is not normal. If the device is not in a poorly ventilated enclosure, then I would recommend obtaining an RMA, based on the system log entries you mention. Your heatsink might be improperly seated, or missing its thermal pad.

On another hand, it's nice to see that thermal throttling does work properly.

What is the 'normal' operating range for the 86U? I just looked at mine and it's at 80-81C degrees. Ambient temp is 70F.

Mine is 88C under a little bit of load (about 40mbps download traffic) which I consider pretty high. Room temp is only 22C. No logs saying that it's throttling or shutting one of them down though. I should probably mod some fans on it or something because it's 4 years old now but I don't know how and surprisingly Youtube came up with nothing on the subject.

Mines 65° C just now, ambient 21° currently.
In mid summer high 70’s are normal.

So you're not talking about an 86U then as it's only been available for about 7 months or so.

I just picked up two Monday and both are very close on temp, ( 2.4GHz: 46*C - 5GHz: 53*C - CPU 68*C ) and ( 2.4GHz: 44*C - 5GHz: 52*C - CPU 64*C ).

Edit: my ambient temp is about 70F.

So mine must be running too hot then at 79C-81C, which is odd as I don't recall it running that warm earlier. I haven't checked it in an about a month/6 weeks though.

That is still 20* lower that the OP, but I know when I was running my retired Wrt3200Acm 80*C was about the normal.
Also I think you mean Centigrade not Fahrenheit ???
Because 80*F = 26.6*C

Yes, I do, it's been fixed. :)

This is an old thread and this issue is still happening. Mine is at 205F.. Guess I am going to look something else.
