Looking for feedback: Anyone considering AiCloud important to them?

I used to use it, but after first time I got hacked on my AC-86U I disabled it.
On mi ax6000 I had it disabled to. I used it too "drop" some files from my office or my celphone on my shared samba disks.
Now I do it through VPN + Total Commander + Lan PlugIn, its not "that" practical", but it gets the job done at a much more segure way.

Wouldn't mind if it goes away, but maybe you can add a threatening warning when/if someone try to enable it. It will catch some of them, not all, but some for sure.

Never used AiCloud on any of the ASUS routers I have used over the years.

I actually like the idea of a warning the minute you enable the option. I used it years ago when I first got on with Asus but was simply useless to me and moved on to Nextcloud as a much better option.

I am also with the majority (never use it) and I am usually staying away of any remote (i.e. cloud) storage availability/offer.

Anyone for whom losing AiCloud in Asuswrt-Merlin would be a deal breaker for using the firmware?

(I know people who don't use it will say "just drop it", but I am more concerned in people who actually DO use it).

Personally I don't use it but if dropping it is beneficial for the firmware's overall health/build, so be it.

It was anticipated that many would say discontinue it. It's not secure and is bricking hardware.

As a 1 man show, Eric's vote is the only one that matters. I think him asking is polite and he is looking for consensus.

Still, nothing in the PRO column. He may want to give it a week or if he's trying to move quickly may want to remove it so we can move on from the current troubles.

Just seen the 386.14_2 release for AC models, with the fix backported. I guess Eric's having to wait for the official releases for AX88U and AX86U before stepping ahead.

I shared the information to a few locations rog-discord, rog-forums, gnuton discord, Linus tech tips forums. A line as been cast so it might draw some users attention that might not frequent the snbforums. Unfortunately if you want to notify people so you can get feedback it can easily get overlooked except by the community that frequent this site. Time will tell.

Never used it or have any plans to do so in the future. Other more secure options are available so drop it. Anyone that needs this functionality can stay on the stock firmware.

Better to have a working router / hardware (not bricked) without the software that breaks / compromises it.
Sometimes you have to cut out the rot.

I have never used AiCloud, but perhaps it would be better to hide all of its related settings by default and add a toggle switch for anyone who thinks they need it for whatever reason. In terms of security, it would still be the same as if AiCloud was removed, right?

With Asuswrt-Merlin and Entware you can accomplish the same thing - with much more control and choice.

If someone wants AiCloud - they should be using the stock firmware.

I would eliminate it from Asuswrt-Merlin.

How is using AIcloud on stock FW any better ? It is a problem , there are better options I guess I never liked any"cloud" I have had access to all my files from anywhere in the world for over 20 years with no problems .Don't have to worry about the 'cloud" going bye bye or my files being
held for ransom

Never used it, never planning on using it. So, remove it given that it's a security risk.
