Looking for feedback: Anyone considering AiCloud important to them?

@Tech9 I received two reports about your behavior on this thread and have reviewed the posts. You’re trending back to your ways that got you temporarily banned awhile ago. At that time I reinstated you on the condition that you stop editorializing, which you did. Do so again or you’ll go the way of L&LD.

Never used AiCoud either. If it means less overhead maintaining the code and bringing the cadobease 3006 to AX routers sooner, dropping it is a win win

I have never used it and never will.

“Less features, but more secure” actually sounds good to me (if you don’t use the missing features ;)), but it’s of course totally up to RMerlin to decide how to “market”/position his firmware/“product”. It’s nice of him to consult us a “focus group”.

Challenge here is that Asus defines the features, not Eric... it's their product, not his...

They will go the direction they need to for the business at the end of the day...

Maybe my answer will be too late, but here are my two cents

I did use AiCloud for years, it was a great way to help my mom get to see shared files. She is not tech savvy and just telling her to VPN something would get her a stroke. So AiCloud app for iPhone and iPad was really useful, especially for large files.

Nevertheless, some time ago, most ISP started using CGNAT so AiCloud stopped working. And after that, online cloud storage services got more popular with even more space, in this case, when AiCloud stopped working due to private WAN IP, she easily move all her needed files to iCloud.

I would assume many people experienced the same thing, AiCloud was really helpful at first, but now there are easier options for regular users, like OneDrive, Google Drive, etc.

I would ditch it, and the benefits of Merlin surpass the ones of AiCloud.

Never used the cloud because its just to insecure and like a familiy tree, gathering data wich is always online for further generations, but these further generations dont want it.
For me its a always online and data makes billions of money for firmes, wich they sell anyway.
And a AiCloud is defintily even worser in gathering data, (AI = Aimbot) so definitly NO.
Thats also why i skip these routers currently, i dont pay for ai chips wich are gathering my data to sell it.
Its fine to make it faster with digital, but i was born in 1984 and love the times to be offline with a nintendo ;)

Like einstein said before the rotten law (chips are getting smaller) and the atom bomb, "time is passing faster in the future".

So am I right this setting is automatically enabled and ok to leave it at that? Never used AiCloud before or even navigate to that page. Behind CG-Nat anyway.

I think the current advice is not to use it at all.
Just wondering about that setting. I never touch/change any setting. I never used it. Is that the default setting for everyone?

Just make sure everything on the ‘aicloud 2’, & ‘settings’ tabs is turned ‘off’.
I imagine that would do it……:)
What am I worried about, behind CG-Nat anyway lol

That setting does exactly like it says enables password protection so leave it on.

Doesn’t matter if he has AiCloud disabled as he stated he’s never used it before and behind CG-NAT which means AiCloud won’t work either way.

Considering AiCloud's history, I am wondering if getting rid of it might not be a good idea. There are a now far better alternatives to achieve similar results (free/inexpensive cloud services, Plex, Jellyfin, a VPN, etc...)

Anyone for whom losing AiCloud in Asuswrt-Merlin would be a deal breaker for using the firmware?

(I know people who don't use it will say "just drop it", but I am more concerned in people who actually DO use it).
I use Plex and never used AiCloud. It can be removed without problem.

The only deal breaker I have is how slow Asus is sending its GPLs to Merlin. I reverted to stock firmware yesterday to have access to the relative stability of the latest GT-BE98 Pro firmware 3.0.0.6.102_37031.
The stock firmware does everything I need except the Openvpn server which blocks port 443. Very frustrating that Asus gives themselves the right to decide which port we should use for us...

Have never used it and don't plan on using it.
