MAC OS: Network Scan tool?

Does anyone have recommendations of their favorite low-cost tool that will run under MAC OSX 10.7 (and 10.6?) that will

• Scan all IP addresses within a specified range to determine presence.
• Identify what manufacturer the MAC address likely belongs to
• Identifies which ports may be responsive.

There are a few I've seen:

1. IP Scanner Pro (Eric Redlinger) $30
2. Lan Scan Pro (Thomas Baudelet) $6
3. Network Radar (Daniel Diener) $20
   
4. And a bunch of others... some crap.

Before I want to spend any money (or waste a bunch of time)... What sayest the elite, the knowledgeable of the SmallNetBuilder family?

A really good one is nmap.
You can use the UI and do a Ping Scan (one of many):

Ex:

Just specify Target: 192.168.1.1/24


or

Command Line:

nmap -sP 192.168.1.1/24

Nmap is best but I use Angry ip scanner, it is free too.

Underneath all the glamor and glitz of the MacOS X user interface, there's an entire FreeBSD networking stack...

MacPorts has additional tools that have been ported over...

Alternately, you can install a build environment, and most FOSS tools can be built and run...

Go into the Java control panel and relax the permissions a bit - Sun/Oracle tightened things up on Java 7 update 51 and later...
