New Around Here
I have an N66U as my main router and an N66W in Media Bridge mode. Multicast packets are not being forwarded across the bridge. I can see this problem with Home Sharing on my AppleTV. When connected to the N66U, it works perfectly. When i connect it to the bridge, it does not work. Also, other things that rely on multicast don't work when connected to the bridge. I have accessed the hidden IPTV settings page on the N66W and changed the IGMP snooping settings and it works briefly but then stops working after a few minutes.

Is this something that can be fixed by Merlin or are we at the mercy of ASUS on this one (which means it will never be fixed).

I reported the exact same issue with my RT-AC66U in repeater mode (not media bridge mode) with Merlin's 378.50 F/W a week or so ago. I didn't get a response unfortunately. Apparently this is a pretty common issue with Apple devices and repeaters. Amped Wireless repeaters had this issue back in 2012, but they were able to fix it in a firmware upgrade.

I filed a support request with ASUS but I'm pretty sure that will go nowhere. It's a shame. Using the N66W in media bridge mode is the only way i can stream HD content to the AppleTV in the back of the house.

I got tired of waiting for a reply from Asus support so i found a way to fix this myself by cobbling together a bunch of information across the next and coming up with this approach:

1. Installed entware on the N66W that is acting as my media bridge
2. Installed avahi-daemon
3. Configured avahi to rebroadcast mDNS across the network interfaces

Now my AppleTV hooked up to the media bridge has no problem connecting to my iTunes Home Share that is connected to my main router. If anyone wants a step by step i could write one up but since i didn't see much interest in this thread, i'll wait for someone to ask for it first before spending the time.

You mean something like this post?

Yes that was one site i found but it didn't go into details about what you need to do to get avahi to actually run and stay running. it requires changes to the group files which need to be added to the group.add file in /jffs/configs. It also requires some fixes to get dbus working.

If you would be so kind, I could use some help with this. My RT-AC66U is the repeater. I installed a flash drive, formatted it to EXT3 and installed entware. I installed the avahi-daemon package. That's as far as I have gotten. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Well after a few hours the it stopped working. AppleTV no longer sees iTunes across the network. Looks like my fix didn't actually fix it. This is really frustrating.

Seeing the same issues with AFP shares. Can't connect to my TimeMachine running on a Synology through mediabridge on a RT-AC68U. Normal wireless direct works perfectly.

Please try the latest Merlin release.
My AirPrint problem is solved now. ( RT-AC68U_378.55_0.trx )
