New Around Here
I have a RP-AC86U and updated to Merlin Firmware 384.6 and lost connection between Virgin Hub 3 in modem mode and 86U. All the correct details were showing for external IP, DNS and Gateway on the console page but it just showed disconnected. No other settings changed. Tried resetting both router and modem but no joy.
Rolled back to 384.5 and all working again.

Look for clues in the network log of the Virgin Hub.

P.S. I'm assuming it's an RT-AC86U and not an RP-AC86U (which doesn't exist AFAIK) as you wrote in your post.

Sorry typo - RT-AC86U is correct.
Checked Virgin Hub log and last error was at 10:26 - All was good until around 12:00 when I upgraded.

This is similar to a problem that I had. I diagnosed the problem as a dead WAN port on the RT-AC86U router. I got a RMA from Asus and sent it back. Asus sent me a new router. Now, looking back and seeing other people with the same problem, I'm thinking it's something with the 384.6 release that is in certain setups that is causing this issue.
I didn't roll back the firmware to the previous release, I'm betting now that the older firmware would have fixed the problem.
