Nested router configuration

New Around Here
Hi, everyone.

I have 2 D-Link routers; one DIR-655 and one DIR-825. My telco supplied all-in-one is a ZTE ZXV10-H108L, and it's a piece of junk so I'm using it only for the modem function (not wireless or routing). The 655 is a routing powerhouse while the 825 can have DD-WRT installed on it (though currently on stock firmware). I live in China.

I'm running a PPTP connection to StrongVPN in the U.S. and running my bittorrent server through that. Both routers are PPTP compatible and I've tried them both with StrongVPN.

My original idea was to use the DIR-655 as a general router with the DIR-825 inside it with a constant connection to the VPN and then the BT box connected to it. I figured I would let the 655 handle all the routing since this is its strength.

But then I thought, does this matter if all the DIR-655 'sees' is a VPN stream? Does its ability to handle a high maximum number of connections matter? Or does each BT connection matter to the outer router even if its through a VPN? I know a bit about VPNs, security, etc. but don't know much in this area.

Any advice would be appreciated.
