Skynet New Skynet 7.6.4 Release

Anything unusual in the syslog?

This was weird. I didn't see anything but to be honest I was caught in a jam running out the door and didn't really have comprehensive look.
Something odd happened. Because I was in a rush I did what probably wasn't the smartest thing and quickly tried 2 or 3 things.

Now today all seems Ok after a reinstall. To summarize timeline:
  1. System running super high CPU, intermittent internet dropouts. No unusual log messages at quick look but definitely could have missed them. High CPU processes looked like maybe Skynet related sed / awk spawns..? Or were the compromised processes?
  2. Reboot - no change same issues. Discovered Skynet interactive menu hangs after 'file lock found' message whether started at shell prompt or via amtm
  3. Restored 4 day old backup & reboot (restore worked GREAT ;) ) - but same issues came right back
  4. Uninstalled Skynet, reboot - system running fast/clean no suspicious processes seen
  5. Reinstalled Skynet default settings - oops same issues 100% CPU again
  6. Uninstalled Skynet - back to OK - just had to leave for 24hrs so left it - then it had a scheduled nightly reboot
  7. Reinstalled Skynet via amtm menus. All PERFECTLY fine.
I'm not asking for any help here - just recapping the outcome... if it happens again I'll make my own thread as it seems clearly like a 'local system' problem.

I've seen that after upgrades or during upgrades, sometimes the CPU goes crazy while it reconstructs or reindexes databases... this could go on for many hours, and could definitely be a cause of concern for many. If you have any other scripts on there that might use a database, that could have been the reason. Some changes within Skynet may have also promped a recompile of the blocklists, and depending on the age of your equipment, could also cause some long-running CPU spikes. Glad you're back in business!

Thanks Viktor - yeah that seems likely. Maybe yesterday I should have 'ridden it out' and would have finished? Being in a rush AND having been compromised in past (AND having household complaints ;)) made me twitchy with the trigger finger

I am new to Skynet and while upgrading to 7.6.2 I noticed that block lists and the program should auto update? Can I expect Skynet to go to 7.6.3 by itself?

If you have auto update enabled? Yes Skynet will handle the update by itself within a week of release.

I’m getting a 404 error in the Merlin gui tab for Skynet. Not sure what I’ve done wrong. Seems to be running when I check through amtm (ranges blocked, auto updating lists)…
Help?

@John Fitzgerald
Are there release notes for skynet 7.6.4?

Gatekeeper is large list, click on list and look over links, You are also free to remake it to your setup if you choose,

Medium list: Works all around: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ViktorJp/Skynet/main/filter.list

Large List: Might have false positives: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Jack-Sparr0w-2o4/Gatekeeper/refs/heads/main/Filterlist

Nuked List: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jumpsmm7/GeneratedAdblock/master/filter.list This list is not used anymore and might have been nuked. the whole list is a 404 error. I remade the list with the help of a friend with pihole.

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jumpsmm7/GeneratedAdblock/master/filter.list is back in session. I had to clear the git cache. The consequence was that list got removed since it was not auto generated.

Hey there, first off let me say thank you for creating this project really cool.

I have a question about the data which is displayed in the webui.

I notice there are a number of outbound connections being blocked both http and just outbound connections, I would like to see which client on the local network these connections originated from so I can perhaps look into why/what is generating them.

Is there anyway to get that data from skynet? Like a sub view where it lists the local client and then the ips that were blocked from that client.

Hope that makes sense. Thank you.

firewall stats search device 192.168.1.1

OR

In the Skynet menu you can access the above command via the menu item '13' then '2' then '6' {enter Ip Address at prompt}

The above command will Search for all outbound entries from local device 192.168.1.1. (Substitute the IP Address of the device you want.)

See https://github.com/Adamm00/IPSet_ASUS
At bottom of the page are example commands that give you some ideas of what you can do.
