I found the Roaming assistant not working well, I set it to -55dBm(both 2.4G/5G) but my device didn't disconnect at -63dBm (according to wireless log), and there exist a node which is -46dBm (report by wifi analysis app on device)
the -46dBm node is in the same room as the device, the -63dBm node is in another room.
All node are AC68U

I think the feedback function doesn't work. Which function enabled by yourself? Such as AiProtection, AiDesk, Adaptive QoS, Media Server....etc.

I sent using email too,

The speeds drops and the main router is running like a old car, I will reebot and if not help I will returnet the old ac68u with merlin FW just to work and study, can´t use the internet and router running like a old car =[, look to the memory and core usage

Could you try to turn off the Adaptive QoS ?

How do you change the nodes with different dBm ? I think all dBm will be the same. Have any traffic (transmit/receive) in device when you test ?

something wrong, i still didn't receive your feedback. @@ maybe i can give you a test f/w for RE offline issue. Have any improve for cpu load issue after turn off Adaptive QoS ?

I got it... :), Could you check the log as Maliclous Sites Blocking , Two-Way IPS, Infected Device Prevention and Blocking in AiProtection ?

First off, big thanks to arthurlien and Wilson_Deng for providing us with and dealing with the questions from everyone here. Another big thank you to goggles99 for figuring out how to get the TM models working.

For those running TM’s modified CFEs and unable to find any nodes, I think I’ve figured out why. Also some good news: if you didn’t save your original CFE, you should still be able to figure out your MAC addresses. The MAC on the back of the router is the first and second MAC to enter in the AC68u CFE, and the third MAC is going to be almost the same.

For example, if the MAC on the back of the router is 90-ED-03-B5-BC-A8

1st MAC - 90-ED-03-B5-BC-A8
2nd MAC - 90-ED-03-B5-BC-A8
3rd MAC - 90-ED-03-B5-BC-AC

The first and second are the same, and the 3rd is almost the same except for the fact that the last digit has 4 added to it (in hexidecimal).

That’s it! I spent over 10 hours trying to figure out what was working so easily for some people and not at all for others. After doing the standard resets, mine was found right away! I realize this may have been obvious for the rest of you. Either the rest of you guys with TM routers are networking experts or are just more careful with copying the MAC addresses instead of just typing gibberish…

goggles99:
For you this means that the CFE you uploaded does have all the MAC info of your router. Thanks again!

No. In router's firmware page you'll find option to upgrade the router and AiMesh node(s).
What I can't tell if there's a specific order. I can only but guess you first upgrade router and after each node.
Does the node have to be reset again?

No, I mean I set it to -55dBm for all node, but according to the log from the node and my device's report it can go below that a lot and still don't get disconnect. I can get below -65dBm and still don't get disconnect, the device don't have any traffic but the connection is good. At the same time there is some node have much higher dbm and physically closer to the device but it will never switch to them.

Before I move to AImesh I use them as separate AP and always get disconnect when below the same setting

The device I am using to test is a Note8 and a Asus UX430UA notebook(intel 8xxx wifi ?)

Got it, Do you see some message in system log ? such as below,

Nov 24 23:49:23 roamast: discover candidate node [XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX](rssi: -64dbm) for weak signal strength client [XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX](rssi: -71dbm)

When it work it does, this is what it got:

But when it is not working I will not get the disconnect message, I got something like this:

Nov 27 13:18:06 roamast: discover candidate node [XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX](rssi: -25dbm) for weak signal strength client [XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX](rssi: -70dbm)

To any newbies who may still be stuck, here's my experience as well: I bought 2x refurbished TM-1900 and both had the 3181 firmware on it, which made them a pain. One is the master AiMesh router and the other is the slave/node without a wired backbone between them. The two main problems I had were getting to the miniCFE page and finally being unable to find any nodes for AiMesh. For solving each problem:

1. I set a static IP on my desktop, plugged it into one of the routers, and simply turned off the router (didn't seem to need to hold reset yet). The next part is all about timing: I held reset and turned on my router; at the exact same time, I had a browser pointed to 192.168.29.1 and I hit enter. I then hit F5 every second (while still holding reset) until the miniCFE showed up*. Sometimes I'd see a couple of the "Your settings have reset blah blah blah" messages, sometimes nothing. Within 10 seconds, of doing this, the miniCFE would show up and I could load the firmware (no longer holding reset at this point). Hurray!

2. Changing the MAC address! Using goggles99's CFE, make sure to change all three MAC addresses. User s62n54 had some good tips above; I simply dumped my CFE, grabbed every MAC address I could find, and then used CFEdit to replace the ones in goggles99's CFE he posted. If you use CFEdit, don't use dumb edit. Use advanced mode to find all of the MAC addresses. Once I did that, I saved the CFE files, wrote them to my routers, reset NVRAM and followed the normal procedure for setting up AiMesh, which has been working since them

Huge thanks to goggles99 and everyone else in this thread!

*It took me a long time to discover this. In Chrome, I'd see "Waiting..." in the bottom-left and just before the miniCFE was about to load, it'd change to something like "Downloading proxy script". A couple more F5 presses and it would load. If it doesn't load up after maybe 15-20 seconds, simply turn off and try again.

My main takeaway was that the routers original 3x MAC addresses can be determined from the sticker on the back, and should be used. After using the correct macs, my nodes were found.

Sorry that I have to ask here as I m a newbie and had only picked up and learned from these two years of stay in China....
In order for my family and me to get over the CFW (China FireWall), we had to have VPN...
Presently in this old mid size, two storeys wooden villa, the AC68U (VPN Router) is unable to cover the whole house.... I find this AiMesh setup will suit my needs.... Furthermore, I have another spare AC68U. But I have the following questions and hope u guys can assist me:-

The VPN (Astrill) router had been flashed with Merlin 380.59 and the spare AC68U had been updated with the latest stocked firmware. May I know am I able to have this AiMesh setup and also the VPN? If yes, can u guys kindly please advise on how to do it and should the configuration be VPN as the master router or the slave?
Thank you very much.....
