I did upgrade directly from Merlin 378.55, but I don't see how that is supposed to change anything? Like I said, the initial upgrade itself went just fine and I was running 378.9135. It was the moment I hit factory restore within the webui everything went down the drain.

You don't have access to a serial TTL cable, by any chance?

My guess is, there's a default value that causes the router to crash at boot time once you are back to factory default reset. I've seen it happen a year or two ago with an RT-AC56U firmware. Try flashing an older firmware (my 378.55 would be fine for this test) through either the CFE Mini Web interface or Asus's Firmware Recovery tool.

Bit more testing this morning as someone sparked the idea it might be because I was upgrading from non-official firmware. (Was on the latest Asus BETA from this forum, not Merlin etc).

Recovered the router, then flashed Official 378.7838 back on to the device - this worked perfectly fine. Even performed a factory restore and it still continued to work absolutely fine.

THEN upgraded to this latest release (9135) and performed a factory restore, unfortunately get EXACTLY the same problem as before - Can log in to the GUI then just get a blank page.

Problem only seems to be evident after a Factory Restore.

Meh!, its defo not that then! - back to 7838 it will have to be

Sadly I don't. I did try to recovery to 378.55, I also tried to revert back to the very first official RT-AC3200 firmware but there is no change to the behaviour. It sounds like you are correct as the router seems to be in a constant rebooting state, it seems to keep rebooting every five minutes or so.

Thanks - that important bit of information should be helpful to Asus.

I would test it myself, but my RT-AC3200 isn't disassembled, so I can't easily hook it to a serial cable to see what's happening. The theory of the default values causing a boot time crash is the most plausible at this time, and having these steps should help Asus reproduce the problem on their end.

Been back on 7838 since this mornings post, no problems at all - just cant upgrade to this release

I have the choice of waiting until Wednesday and grab a new RT-AC3200, or I could get a combo of Asus RT-AC68U/W + RT-N66U/AC68U as the cost is pretty much the same the RT-AC3200.

Is there any real difference between the RT-AC3200 and the RT-AC68U/W besides the Smart Connect feature? The SoC is pretty much the same and the firmware and the feature-set should be more or less identical? I could simply set the RT-AC68U/W as router, and the RT-N66 or the additional RT-AC68 as access point and simply point all "slow" devices to one of them, and all faster devices to the other.

I like to report that I have upgraded to the latest Asus FW successfully. Going from a stock Asus FW to the latest.
Main PC (Win8) is connected directly to the back of the Asus router. In the past use to use my laptop, and connected directly to the back of routers.
CAT 6 cabled all the time.

1) Use FF version 41.0.1, cleared all cache
2) Downloaded FW 3.0.0.4.378.913 directly from Asus.
3) Access Asus Gui page
4) Backed up config file.
5) Uploaded FW 3.0.0.4.378.913
6) let it do its thing and not disrupt the upgrade process ( brushed my teeth : ) )
7) came back and all is working, including router and clients. Went into the GUI and all config is there including the new stuff Asus added
8) retest speedtest and it's spot on on speed

That's the only time I get problems with this firmware, as soon as its reset (previous firmware works fine just this one playing up for me)

I did and no problem. But i have issues with samba and dlna. If i turn on the bandwidth limiter, download speed from hdd down to 1-2 mb/s. Upload speed doesn't affect.

I was able to upgrade absolutely fine from the last beta version to this no problems - using Safari on Mac.

Just had a strange occurrence I have not seen before.

Router just randomly restarted itself but the reboot never finished, just sat there with flashing lights.
Had to power cycle to get it working again. Log shows no errors. Temps are good (42/39/44).
May have to go back to previous F/W if it happens again.

Latest FW has been running solid since install Sat Morning. No hiccups from any of my wired or wireless clients. Able to access attached HDD from the router like before and stream videos on my iphone or ipad (using the Asus app) Rest of my Laptops are all networked connected and they have full access to the connected HDD and can access all files and videos. Transfer rates between connected(Cat6) PC's are about the same as before. 8 port switch with all of my other devices are all networked connected and can see across the network. Really can't see any performance issues, just the newly added stuff as stated by Asus.

Last night, I went to download and none of them were there any more. Is there something going on with this firmware? Without source, I'm a bit hesitant, especially with the apparent stability issues. If there's a problem, I *always* hit it. Anyone know why they pulled it from the site?

That often happens right after they upload a new file - it might take a few hours for all the servers in their cluster to be synchronized. Try again later.

How much later have you seen? I see I can get the source for .9135 on your github, but it's been 24 hours since I saw it, and more than 12 hours since I saw it was gone from the Asus site. If it comes back up, I'm curious whether it will be different in some way, that perhaps something was left out.

12-24 hours has been common in the past, if it's the usual cluster sync issue.

My Github is based on 9177.

"Adaptive QoS can now be enabled without assigned upload/ download bandwidth"

How does the router know how to limit the upload bandwidth? Does it decide dynamically?
